So I heard that Far Cry 5 is going to have character customization. And I'm really don't like this. The fact that you can change your characters gender and race is probably not a good idea. Now don't get me wrong I don't care if the protagonist is a woman or a man or black or white, that's not my problem. The fact that there is not one fixed protagonist it bothers me.
In Far Cry 3, one of the main reasons why Jason Brody is so memorable is because of his story and background. His older brother died and his friends are held captive and you feel for him. But if I customized a character in a game and then my brother died in the game, I wouldn't care because that's not my real brother. If Far Cry were to go into the whole character customization, it wouldn't work, imo.
However I do think Far Cry could have character customization as in clothing.
I just don't like it because visual customization of the player character in a first person game is pointless, but then you have a bunch of developers creating customizable gear you can't see rather than adding something more meaningful to the game. What if instead of custom hats & shirts those artists were instead making a wider variety of NPC models or something else that would actually be useful in the game....
There might or not might be voice options. Saints Row 2, for example, offered the player a choice of voices to be used in the story. It worked fine. Didn't Dragon Age: Inquisition do that as well?
You will probably see your character in cutscenes. Plus, it will show up in co-op.
Clothing customization is probably limited to the game's beginning. But if not they could enable clothing to be bought, looted, or rewarded throughout the game. Am extra layer of rewards to hunt might deepen gameplay.
Far Cry games have always maintained the first person perspective throughout the whole game. Also, I still don't see my own character in coop, so how does changing clothes benefit me?Originally Posted by hallower1980 Go to original post
Actually you don't see yourself when you look down, FC games (unless they change it in this one) do not render your character's body. Even if they did, who just looks down at their own body in FC just to check out the outfit from first person? they only show glimpses of your pants & shoes when you get in vehicles or slide and even then not enough that I would think, "oh cool, i'm wearing that doomsday prepper outfit" It just seems frivolous to me. It's ubisoft responding to fan feedback that was apparently requested enough to warrant a response but is not particularly useful feedback. I guess there may be a purpose to it they haven't explained yet but it seems so pointless to me right now....Originally Posted by Mikoianionut Go to original post
Aside from cutscenes, you might see your character in the menu screens (skills, inventory, loading screens). And if you're playing co-op, your buddy might think your character looks cool. It might be a way of showing off to friends or in Twitch streams.
We won't know how well it works or doesn't work until we see it at E3.
Actually in the game details they state the following which I pulled from another thread. Anytime you play with or against friends I think it's good to allow for customization so there is variety rather than have all the same character playing together.
CARVE YOUR OWN PATH
The freedom to go in any direction – you decide the when, the where, and the how.
From the moment you enter Hope County you have the freedom to tackle the world in any order you choose.
For the first time in Far Cry, you are the hero of the story – choose your own avatar and customize your character.
Create insane and unique Far Cry experiences with the Map editor, to enjoy with or against your friends!
there is no indication that you play as your SP character in MP. My whole issue about customization is specifically relegated to the SP aspect of it.... Just seems pointless to me and there is really no convincing me otherwise, I'm american, I'm Montanan, I"m dug in... haha...Originally Posted by CAFFEIN8TED Go to original post
