Yep, it's gonna be one of those posts. If you have coffee nearby, go grab it and strap in for my thoughts.
Still here? Good.
So, what's good about the Centurion in current build? Well, he has good options to open a static blocker opponent. His kick is a great way to force opening block because you either dodge or get hit with a bash that can be followed with some good things. His jab has a couple of uses in knocking you senseless or knocking you to the ground. He has an unblockable heavy, which is nice, and he has a pounce. All that seems pretty great, right?
HOWEVER! All of his attacks are super slow and incredibly readable. He telegraphs from last week, making him easy to parry. His stance change is so slow that if you are using quick lights, you are getting regular free hits (I have checked the switch speed and it's painfully slow). His zone-attack is essentially useless and should never be used unless you want to get parried. And all this with his very short range.
Was he a heat seaking rocket at first release? Oh yeah he was, but now that that is fixed (and I am glad for that because there were times I was just confused by his sudden turns in mid air), he is far more lackluster in anything other than gank situations. 1v1, you are going to have to be a golden god against anything short of a heavy or a lawbringer, as everything else is fast enough to dodge, fast enough to attack before he can switch, and built around those concepts.
How to fix: Make his lights slightly faster. His lights are as slow as the Raider and don't hit nearly as hard. They are beyond parriable, to the point that using a light is basically a death sentence. I'm not saying he needs to be PK fast, but fast enough to actually be able to hit would be nice.
Guard Switch: Why is this even an issue? It's not like his weapon is particularly hard to maneuver, and significantly easier to maneuver than a longsword or a nodachi, and yet he's slower to switch than a lawbringer. Why is this? The common answer is due to his hand switch, but with even basic practice I can toss a shortsword from hand to hand faster than I can maneuver a pole axe into position.
Kicks: So, this might seem kind of silly, but seriously, increase the stamina cost on this. It's too spammable and it becomes the automatic go to for most Centurions just to keep kicking and stabbing and punching in group fights.
Zone: Allow it to be feinted after the first or second swing just like every multi-hit zone. Again, that should have been self evident at creation of the character.
Other than that, he's fine. For those claiming OP status, it literally comes down to dodge. If you dodge his kicks and punches and parry everything else, he's a joke. He has so much potential, but he can't really do anything once someone knows even the basics of how to fight him. He punishes mistakes, but it's way too easy to punish him for doing literally anything, including blocking.
Current Match Ups (purely subjective)
Good Against: Lawbringer, Conqueror, Warlord, and maybe Shugoki
Bad Against: Kensei, Shinobi, Valkyrie, Nobushi, PK, Berserker
