Something i was thinking about, which i wanted to share.
Currently you have the Story missions, which are generally fun to play.
Now, as most of you know, you have a pre-selected hero when playing these story modes. There isn't an option (as of yet) to play said missions with the hero of your own choice.
Most of the heroes are addressed in the story mode. Some in one, some in a few missions. The bad side of this is the following word "most".
As a Nobushi myself i can't play my own hero in a story based mission, which is the same for the Shugoki. Other heroes (Warlord, Lawbringer, Conqueror) only have a single mission in which they play. Beating the final boss with the Orochi is fun and all, but less satisfying for people who play with another hero.
Taking into account the future heroes which will be introduced, i doubt they will have any story based gameplay for themselves to play.
Now, for the suggestion:
A story-mode based game where the player can pick its own heroes to play with.
How it should/ could work:
This gametype is a neutral (non-front based) gamemode which you can start from your main factions keep.
When choosing this gamemode you get 3 "gamemode" options, with each having 3 sub-options.
- Gamemode options:
Knights
Vikings
Samurai
- Sub options:
1 Player
2 Players
4 Players
The gamemode options decides which story missions you will have available.
The first game will be random (the first knight's mission's tutorial part will be removed from their story), after which you get the option to choose which mission you with to play (just like you normally choose which level you wish to play for your next match)
The Sub options will allow you to play solo, or with multiple people.
1 player will be the normal settings, with the bots being of a random assigned level (1-3).
2 players will be the hard settings, with the bots also also having random assigned levels.
4 players will be realistic difficulty, with all bots having a randomly assigned level.
Bosses (final bosses of the level) will always be of a higher tier level.
Choosing your hero:
The hero choice will be as you will normally have it in a multiplayer game.
Multiple heroes of the same type may be chosen, and ones readied up, you can enter the story mission of your choice.
Choosing your feats:
For the diversity compared to normal gameplay you will only have 2 feats (with the 3rd being the pick-up feats you can find throughout the levels).
These feats will be the ones you have unlocked in the story missions, just like you pick them in the story mission.
Rewards:
You will get your rewards after finishing the mission you played.
Each participant will receive rewards based on their contribution, in the following sections:
- Story mode exp: 1/10th ~ 1/25th of what you would receive from the normal Story mode.
- Exp for the hero you played.
- Salvage for the alliance the hero you choose to play belongs to.
- Steel
The story mode exp is to make the hero's have more feats in this game mode. It would also give extra options for future story based additions.
The hero exp is just general exp for leveling up your hero.
Salvage is something some of us have in large quantities, and other fall short on. Getting gear seems a bit "wrong", as some missions are pretty easy to complete/ short.
Both steel and Salvage could be balanced based on the story's chapter's length.
I hope Ubi's willing to do something with this suggestion.
Some of the story missions are fun, yet a waste of work with how some people only seem to focus on the multiplayer aspect.
Playing with other people is fun, but we don't always have people we know playing, and there isn't an option atm to play with randoms.
