Honestly, people wouldn't loathe and despise it so much if it was counterable.
Just play it safe and roll-back, and keep distance and keep the fight slow if the opponent's a heavy vortex user and don't believe that there are "counters" that Warden players tell you. It doesn't work.
The odds are, if you're at the level of human reflexes and skill to pull off those supposed "counters" Warden players tell you about, then you're probably in something like 0.05% of gamers and would be winning tourneys here and there... and you can be sure of that those Wardens that tell you about the "counters", usually can't do it themselves, and do as I've said above -- dump the situation and start new at further ranges.
I'm not in the Top 0.05% of Gamers, more like Top 20%, and I had massive problems with Vortex, too. But the solution (counter) is pretty simple, due to the nerf there are 3 possible situations:
1. Warden is far away when he starts to charge the bash: wait what he does, if you see the Hyperarmor applied get ready to dodge the bash. Mostly they will cancel it, just wait it out! If they commit to the bash you have plenty of time to dodge it and you can punish them after.
2. The Warden is close to you: now this is tricky and I am currently "relearning". If he does the sidestep - bash charge: IMMEDIATELY hit him with a Light Attack. This will cancel his bash and you can combo further.
3. He hits you with a Light (mostly Top) and goes into Vortex Mode: well, here you are pretty fcked... I try to roll away asap to get into situation 1 again to reset the fight, then go into situation 2 again. Best way to avoid this: always guard your top side and try to react on ZA.
