Personally I love the banter, but having an option to disable it wouldn't be out of place for the people who don't appreciate it.Originally Posted by Ubi-Zoro Go to original post
Personally, I would love the option to turn off the unnecessary dialogue. IMO, it doesn't add anything to the immersion and (like the OP), I agree with the awkward cursing. ....I say "awkward" because it doesn't sound/feel natural IMO. The overuse of the "F" word was one of the things I noticed right away in this game. While I'm likely older than most around here, I am by no means a prude. However, the cursing in the dialogue within this game sounds somewhat forced.
You have no idea what a quiet professional actually is. Here's a hint: it doesn't mean they never talk.Originally Posted by PaleHorse79 Go to original post
Seriously, soldiers curse and they curse a lot, especially when "off the clock." Get over it or play something else.
I don't mind the banter but it feels forced, even the curse words feel force, the curse words just don't roll off their tongue like it normally would. I also hate the fact that they feel out of sync with the the moment. I remember in one of the betas while in a firefight one of the blobs AI was ranting about his experiences. I also didn't like the fact that even without LoS, they were calling out the Tangos ahead of me, that is the part the annoyed me the most.
Sticks & Stones...
I don't really mind the explitives. However, I do agree the dialog could have been better and it is out of sync quite often. There should also be an option to disable and/or lower volume for those who want it.
This is very very annoying. They need to lose the ID detection by proximity for squad AI and use the visual threat detection of the enemy AI to cue & play callouts.Originally Posted by GiveMeTactical Go to original post
They also need to limit the actual dialog to "tango spotted" or "enemy spotted". There have been times where the squad-mate said, "near the container...see" or "next to the stack of tires" and I saw neither of those objects in the area.
All of this is a variety of pre-recorded dialog to give the sense of immersion. However, the way it is implemented, totally does the opposite.
Oh man, my spidey senses tingle when this happens... and not in a good way!Originally Posted by RHAIN07 Go to original post
Some other times, you already put the tangos out of their misery and the blob squad yells out that tangos are there and you waste time getting to cover, looking around, wait for them and nothing happens.
I do try to shut it off and not let me bother but dammit it does... I guess the little things bother me the most but mostly because it happens to often.![]()
Bingo. The dialogue literally sounds like it was written by a civilian that googled military terminology on the internet before they started writing. I cringe every time I hear Nomad say "Think they'd let me wear this on my Class A uniform?" after picking up a skill point medal.Originally Posted by Snoopfighter2 Go to original post
I also wish the writers would learn that it's not a great idea to include dialogue that exactly spells out when an in-game activity sucks or isn't fun. If the other characters are literally face palming their hands through their faces at Holt's dumb military jokes, there's a high probability that the player is doing the same thing. It's like back in Future Soldier also when the Ghosts are in Moscow and running up a bunch of stairs and they are complaining about how much it sucks - that scenario was stupid and pointless for the player too.
Although the dialogue is corny I don't mind it when maybe travelling to a mission - although turning it off as an option should definitely be a thing - but once you're on mission, the audio should sound different as if coming through a radio headset and not directly, and radio discipline should be observed. The characters should switch into professional, well trained radio comms, with lowered voices and precise information using call signs.
The Original did this really, well and the squad voices and style were a major part of the tension.
