Hi,
As me and my boyfriend play together vs AI on PS4 and I haven't seen anyone else talk about how the PvAI issues affect console (since it works in solo) I wanted to make a summary post with all the relevant info we can think of in case it might help you pinpoint the problem and fix it since it is severely hampering for PvAI players (of which you have quite many).
The general issue:
Choose a game mode (apparently other than brawl) vs AI, turn matchmaking off.
During the match, your score works, you don't have connection issues, the whole match plays through without issue.
But AFTER the match, when the reward screen should happen, instead, you first get a "waiting for response from the server" message, and then get an error message stating that the servers are taking too long to respond but you will get the rewards later.
You never get the rewards, xp or count towards contract/daily orders.
Specifically for PC:
Duels vs AI has had this problem for "a month" according to posts I've seen.
Now, only brawl vs AI seems to work
The problem happens in duel and all 4v4 modes against AI when you turn off matchmaking when solo (I assume it is the same if you group up with a friend)
Specifically for PS4:
Duels vs AI has worked for the whole time period it's been problematic for PC. It still works.
Brawl vs AI with a friend/solo works with no issue
All 4v4 modes work fine when solo
If you group up with a friend through your social tab, it sends an invitation through the PSN notification system. When grouped with a friend, the host can choose game modes.
When grouped with a friend, all 4v4 modes vs AI with matchmaking turned OFF gives the problem described in "The general issue"
When grouped with a friend, or when solo, all modes work when matchmaking is turned ON
When playing the story mode, you gain rewards both solo and in group, so this is also not affected by the issue
Information we've gathered when testing this on the PS4, in case any of it is relevant to pinpointing the problem:
- Our NAT is green on both consoles
- We are on the same network and have never had problems related to that in Ubisoft games before, but had issues grouping up in games like Star Wars Battlefront due to having the same public IP
- This has worked for us until Friday the 28th of April, the same day as you posted about this maintenance:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...rom-Start-flow (I chose not to make a pretty link so you don't fear clicking it) We noticed the issue on Saturday the 29th of April.
-I want to point out that even with the latest client side patch the 27th of April this worked fine UNTIL the aforementioned maintenance. A client side patch did not influence this problem, unless the server maintenance activated/started using something from a patch. We completed the orders together vs AI on the 27th and 28th (in the morning), after the patch but before the maintenance.
Speculation:
- Why does this work solo on PS4 but not on PC?
- What is different on the PS4 when you group up with a friend vs solo?
- What is different about retrieving rewards when matchmaking is turned off?
- When you matchmake or when you play solo utilizing Sony systems something allows the communication with the server, so the match data goes to Ubi and the rewards data comes back. When matchmaking is turned off (or when matchmaking is irrelevant on PC (duels)), a different communication process happens, and this one is faltering, or perhaps an extra handshake is required in these cases to avoid cheating/hacking which is unneccesary when using matchmaking since the data is authenticated and matched to make sure it syncs up after the match according to your Q&A on the online system, and which is unneccesary on the PS4 when solo, as it is handled by the PSN connection?
-To put it this into different words: Let's speculate that the matchmaking system gives a green light that the data from your match is verified, approved etc before sending it to the server (because it matches the data sent by the other clients) to make sure you're not cheating/hacking. The data from PSN when you solo is (most likely) unparsed, sent to the server, because PSN has their own anti cheat/hack securities and the data is truested, but when you group up on PS4 (which, after all, has been a source of LOTS of exploits in a host of other games), or when you don't matchmake, something that SHOULD give the green light that the data is verified and OK is not working.
-Perhaps this process is related to the start flow, since that's what got changed in the client side maintenance on the 28th?
Thank you for an awesome game, and I hope this might help you pinpoint and fix the issue so we can get back to playing it together in whatever mode we want and find most entertaining (PvP, PvAI, with or without matchmaking).
Since me and my BF are in the unique situation that we have the option to test things both when grouped with a friend or when solo at any time the next few days, If you (the devs/network people) need us to test something, let us know and we will. I have sent relevant information in a ticket to support a couple of days ago, but without reference to the PC problems or speculations. But since most affected players that post on these forums reference the PC issues, I felt it was relevant to compare, so error sources could be ruled out and the problem might be resolved quicker.
Thanks for reading![]()
Sometimes it takes time to find out where exactly the error is, and with the amount of posts stating that this only happens on PC (because people who test solo on console will find that it works fine, you need to group up with a friend to see the error on console), the posts saying this happened after the last patch (because the patch and downtime coincided on PC, but not on console, yet the problems started happening after the downtime not the patch on all platforms) and the posts mentioning matchmaking, compounded with the server error message, it is no wonder if the devs have been looking in the wrong place for this problem. That's why I wrote the post to begin with, to get the timeline right, get the differences between platforms pointed out etc in case it might help point them in the right direction. Other people, like Alusi_UK, have pointed this out too, as have I in other threads, but I am not sure if posts buried on page 5 in a thread in the general forum where new threads are frequently posted, I feared it might not reach them.
And thanks Alusi, yeah me and my BF are in the same boat as you described elsewhere. We really miss being able to play together more casually, as matchmaking often pits us against tougher bots than we're used to, and we feel like burdens on the much higher renown rank players we get grouped with by the matchmaking system
Thanks for getting this to the right team, Fred, I hope they find the problem soon!
