I've been learning Conqueror (I picked him up after the nerf), and normally I get the jist of a character by then. But I haven't found any redeeming qualities about Conqueror. I've even gone to other players who main Conqueror, but there seems to be no real way to play Conqueror without being read like a book with font size 200
The Problems:
-His lights, they're too slow. Anytime I use them, they're always parried.
-His heavy, even slower than that. They also get parried, no option to feint that.
-His charged heavy sometimes works. It's a 50/50 whether it lands or whether it gets parried. Plus even if it is let loose, it seems the opponent can guardbreak before the heavy reaches where the feint point would be, but Conqueror is not able to (or at least I have not been able to) counter the guardbreak due to charging up the only viable attack he has.
-His shield bash, it's not good. I mean, it allows for a free light attack if it lands, but the opponent seems to always block heavy attacks. If it misses, guardbreak and top heavy to my face. This is supposed to be the very tool that opens up a turtle for Conq since he can't feint, but most of the time it is dodged or the opponent light attacks through the massive shield that covers his entire torso
So basically, everything Conqueror can do to attack is easily punishable.
Potential Fix Ideas:
-Shield Bash
--Allow his shield bash to block incoming attacks. but keep the speed of the bash the same. Opponents will not be able to stop the bash with attacks, but will still be able to dodge around for the guardbreak.
Ex.: Valkyrie can already block incoming attacks with her tiny shield bash, and players can dodge around for a guardbreak. Lawbringer tanks his uninterrupted with his shove, and players can dodge around for a guardbreak on that as well
-Charging Heavy Attack
--Give him hyperarmor starting when his charging heavy attack reaches at least level one.
Ex.: Shugoki has innate hyper armor, Warlord has hyperarmor on his heavies, even Berserker has hyper armor on his heavy - light -heavy chain
-Heavy Into Light
--He doesn't have any feint ability, which makes sense. However, what could possibly be done is turning a heavy into a light. For example, if he were to throw a heavy, but pressed the light attack before the feint window ends, he would change his heavy attack into a light attack.
Ex.: Raider is the only known hero to be able to do this, but I feel it could allow Conqueror to make up for the inability to feint and not make most of his attacks easily parryable
Thoughts? Idea? Feedback? If you have any ideas on how to make Conqueror a viable hero, please add them so I can edit the post with ideas
I do think Conqu isn't in a bad spot like most of the people say.
He is one of the most defensive heros in this game, maybe the most defensive, so a relativly weak offensive is just fair.
1. Hyperarmor on charging attack, i do think this is a good idea but it would need to be slowed down abit, if already the first charge should get hyper.
2. Shildbash - it shouldn't block the attacks, this would be much to strong as an offensive move.
Valks shild tackle blocks attacks, but she doesn't get a free hit for this. And her shildbash after a heavy does not block attacks.
LBs hyperarmor on shovel is a big problem, he can just shovel into attacks without really trading with the enemy.
3.Heavy into light. . . you forgot PKshe can faint every heavy into light.
It could be something but I do not really think he needs this.
The problem is, people do think to offensive of a Conqu the wanna play him like a Assassin or vanguard.
HEY, you have superior block!!!! It interrupts lights and heavys, after a heavy sup block, you get a free GB (this is the most easiest FREE gb in the game)
He is still viable! It isn't always the Heros fault, sometimes the player needs to think in a different way.
As he is now he is quite ok, maybe needs some adjustments, OR if ppl do not like a defensive play they should take another hero who is supposed to be more offensive.
(I don't want to offend you, it's just my opinion - sorry if this maybe sounds abit biased)
Edit: And i do not play him, so i can't really give some good ideas, i can only judge from the view of fighting a conqu, and that is still really hard.
The problem with the charging heavy attack right now is that half the time, the enemy can block your attack. If it were slowed down, this would make it easily parryable. I don't think it should be slowed down because it takes time to charge up before you can use it for anything. It would also be too slow to punish opponents when throwing them to the ground when they are out of stamina
With the superior block, no. We cannot get a free guardbreak off of a superior block because the opponent gets staggered out of grabbing range. While it does interrupt and stagger, they will have recovered enough to counter our guardbreak by the time we get over there to grab them. This is because dashing forward and guardbreaking does a bash instead, which further pushes them away. If we dash, and then guardbreak after we have stopped dashing, they have recovered already
And lastly, sure, I get that he is supposed to be defensive. But that is the very problem everyone is complaining about: he is a turtle that will sit there and stare at you menacingly. Right now, turtles are the victims of our little witchhunt, and often there is hate mail simply because of turtling. I had never received hate mail (as Warden, Raider, or even Warlord), until I picked up Conq, then it was a long line of salt messages
I picked up the Conqu (rep 0 lvl 1) now and he is really strong, i did 2 matches so far with conqu
First match: i lost with 2:3 (my enemy a Conqu (rep. 7) he throwed me down the cliff 3 times (it was my fault, it was my first match and i did abit wrong)
Second match: i won 3:0 against a Berserker (rep. 10)
1. He gets a FREE GB after blocking a heavy 100%
2. His lights are fast and he got a good range.
3. I do even manage to throw heavies and combo into shieldbash.
4. He has a relativ good OOS punish with a following mixup up to a maximum dmg of 83 (wallcombo)
I do try to play not that much defensive.
