I play all 3 assassins and I enjoy doing so. Deflect is a mechanic that all 3 assassin classes have access to (Berserker, Orochi, and Peacekeeper) but its implementation leaves much to be desired.
Deflect is easy to use against beginner players and may be worth the reward against your intermediate level players but against pro players it has no place. Pro players go out of their way to make their moves unpredictable (this is logical. I do too.) but that's exactly why deflect has no place in the end-game.
Attempting to Deflect:
- Is very high-risk low-reward. I have more options parrying than I do deflecting and that's a problem. (Parrying has always helped me combo in moves, deflect has not)
- It's not viable when it needs to be. Not once have I ever thought that I should try to deflect an attack in a serious match. I've always resorted to dodging alltogether rather than deflecting.
Successfully Deflecting (This is where the real issue begins)
- You're at the mercy of a hyper armor attack follow-up. The classes that have smacked me frequently with a heavy attack during my light attack deflect: Kensei, Berserker, and Shugoki. Even considering deflecting any of these 3 classes is ill-advised.**
- You have little to no follow-up depending on which assassin you're playing.
The Berserker's deflect goes into a guard break which has been countered more times than I'd like to admit,
The Peacekeeper's deflect goes into a light attack which usually puts me at the mercy of a hyper armor attack that hits harder and the resulting stagger dissolved any rebuttle
The Orochi (though their deflect has been made more reliable in 1.06) suffers from the same occurances as the Peacekeeper.
Out of the 3 the Berserker has the most options with a successful deflect assuming they don't get GB countered.
In closing: The deflect mechanic needs to be revamped. I play all 3 assassins and while I can say the Berserker and the Orochi don't necessarily "need" it, the Peacekeeper (As of the 1.06 patch) does due to her lack of attack and counterattack options.
Please be respectful and non-bias when contributing to this productive area of discussion.
I know what you mean.
But the basic issue with deflects (hard to pull of in high lvl, high risk - low reward), is that much present, because the Defence Meta is much to strong and a main point of this meta is Parry.
Parry is currently (sadly said) the better deflect.
Berserkers deflect is currently the best and does reward simiilar as a parry.
Orochis deflect now got a great boost with the Hurrican Blast Hyperarmor.
And PKs.... it's a light and "should" hit befor the enemy does hit but i dunno, its not that great currently.
A way to give PK's deflect something special could be:
If PK deflects AND hits the light, she slips past the enemy and hits with the light from behind the enemy. Also the enemy lose the aim on the PK (because the PK is behind his enemy)
I agree, deflect for pk is useles. It only guaranties you being hit. I posted something similar a few days ago the same findings genuinely thinking it was a bug...Originally Posted by S0Mi_xD Go to original post
