Far Cry 4 will not start

    Hi Guys

It seems that even after more than 2 years, Ubisoft was not able to fix the problem with running Far Cry 4.
I did not play the game for almost a year. Usually I had to start it with admin rights (and then it worked fine). However, I am currently not able to start the game.
I tried different things: reinstallation of Uplay, the game and geforce experience - started all these programs in the compability and admin mode and reinstalled and updated drivers. However, still I cannot run the game because I just get a black screen with an error message (Far Cry 4 does no longer work).

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?

    Any help is highly appreciated.

    Kind regards
    Roman

    My system:
    Intel i7-2700K
    16 GB Ram
    and Geforce GTX 680

    current one= a gigabyte windforce 2 GTX 1060 6 gig GPU

your i 7 and 680 should be more then fine ...

    remember

BACKROUND APPLICATIONS may also cause the game to not launch properly and you may need Exit out of them, or reconfigure them to work properly with Far Cry 4 known apps that can cause this are

    A. EVGA PRECISION

    B. MSI AFTERBURNER

    C. Riva Tuner Statistics Server

    D. DXtory

    E. Motionin Joy

    F. Anti Virus or Firewall software (AVG , Comodo, Bullguard etc.. <-- check settings)

    G. MSI true Color

    H. Evolve gameing client

    I. AMD Raptr \ AMD Gaming Evolved

    J. TeamViewer

    K. Overwolf

    L. Nvidia Geforce Experience Shadow Play as of Driver 361.75 in Jan 2016

see this thred to possibly fix issues with afterburner causing black screen
    http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...rcry-4-Crash!?

Please see this Page where it mentions Backround Applications and how you can try to see if one is possibly causing your issue with the game NOT starting or hanging
    https://support.ubi.com/en-US/FAQ/9/...0000000eio0CAA

And if your running windows 10 make sure you launch both Steam and Uplay as Run As ADMINISTRATOR

this game was shipped well before windows 10 did ...and yes you may need to take that extra step to run the game
this games engine was created years before windows 10 shipped and that change may needed to allow the game to write any save files and or configuration files , windows 10 may handle file security \ permissions in a different way, then previous operating systems did.

if you have a problem... try this

right click on the games .exe file

    select properties

    select the compatability tab

check the box that says run as Administrator

set it to run in a windows 7 compatabilty mode

you can also run the windows 10 compatablilty trouble shooter from that same window

also verify your install .. and make sure you installed the updated version of Uplay Direct from the Uplay home page here https://uplay.ubi.com

To verify your files if you bought the game thru Steam ..\EXIT Steam ..right click your steam icon ..select run as Administrator

    to launch Steam

then go to your Steam games library

right clik on far cry 4

    select properties

    select local files

select verify Integrity of game cache

it takes a few min to do but its faster the redownloading your entire game , if its only a few files that were corrupt or installed incorrectly .... this in many cases will fix your problems

If you have the U play only Version of the game you can also verify your game files with U play

if you have the game via u play only here are instructions how to verify your game files thru their client
Again its probably best to make sure you launch Uplay as RUN as Administrator when you do a file verify

    Hi guys...
FC4 worked perfectly untill last windows update few days ago.
I start FC4 it opens Uplay, it is as if it will start the game initialising loging and everithing but it just blinks and stops like nothing happened.
    I've tried:
    Check game Integrity ... OK
Compatibility mode windows 7 and run as admin both Uplay and Steam and seperate ... STILL NOTHING
Uninstalling Steam, Uplay, FC4 and make a fresh install with restart... NOTHING
    Updating GPU drivers... NOTHING
    Disable Firewall... NOTHING

    Anything else?

It worked after I did this forum thingy:

    UPDATE

-What fixed my game and how to fixed it!

    -Delete FC4 and Ubisoft.
-Press windows key search for regedit and open registry editor.
    -Find Uplay location: 'HKEY_USERS \ S-1-5-21-3058071808-3471044320-335630827-1001 \
Software \ Ubisoft'. Your S-1-5-21-3058071808-3471044320-335630827-1001 numbers will probably be different.
-Delete the Uplay file and folder in regedit.
    -Reinstall Uplay and FC4.

Also backup your saves. Save are located here:C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames

Hope this helps everyone. A thanks to [QUACKERZ]_DATBOIDUCK for finding the solution.

That user hash is kinda unique per machine. Correct registry entry should be:
    Code:
    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ubisoft
