i know. i know. i bet 90% of the people here are shocked at anyone saying the AI is too good or too effective and most would say they are useless or idiots or whatnot and to a large degree - i agree that they dont do what they are supposed to.... when in stealth. HOWEVER, in full combat i find the ghosts AI too effective.
I dont know if this was the case before update 3.5 but in in the past 2 days i checked if i could let the ghosts complete missions for me. I walked into an enemy base, even large ones, and simply gave the "assault" command to see what they do. The ghosts, without ANY help from me, just went and cleared out every enemy, indoors and outdoors in a very effective manner and barely any of the three got dropped. the only thing that made them fail was... well... me. If i tried to participate in the carnage (on EXTREME) i got killed pretty quickly while these guys just strolled through the compound eliminating any sicario that came around.
That shouldnt be the case. not when i havent even upgraded them in the skills menu. i have 1 skill point into effectiveness. just 1. and no points in their Health skill. still - these guys when surgical in almost every situation they were in. i'll admit - it looked kinda cool how they moved from cover to cover, jumping over fences and into windows into houses to clear them as if they knew exactly where the enemies were, but i felt un-needed.
combine this with the cheap sync-shot mechanic - i find they are not balanced.
i have a feeling this is a bug or a mistake with the latest update since this is my second playthrough and on my first i upgraded the ghosts a bit because they constantly got killed, which felt more balanced.
with the sync shot i believe the way UBI could have should have balanced it was like what they did in splinter cell - you need to kill enemies yourself to earn sync shots instead of a cooldown. for every kill you do - you earn one sync shot. you want 3? go ahead and kill enemies yourself beforehand. that sounds way cooler than let the AI do the sniping on any enemy that doesnt have a roof over his head.
But with the terminator AI in assault mode? im not sure what to tell ya. maybe the AI should have less health where their health isnt upgraded yet. or maybe they should at least advance more slowly and not attack enemies that werent marked yet and out of line of sight. they are so ferocious and so quick to kill everyone that its so darn hard to even keep up with them. even if i tell them to "assault" and then try and follow them - i get killed really quickly, because they rush forward and if i do the same - i get killed in 3 hits.
I have a feeling the skills dont work as intended or its some mistake on UBIs behalf that made them too strong in update 3.5. They should look into this.
anyone else feels like me or do you like having a super potent team mates? or you just rather have them as this unstoppable force but not use them as such?
I wish the open fire could be changed to return fire only otherwise they just go full Chuck Norris on the enemy which means less for me to kill and like that they only seem to go down when Unidad are on alert 3-4 and then it's only the choppers that down them, sync shots as well if I can't shoot thru a wall the AI shouldn't be allowed to either, so yeah too overpowered imo but I can't see Ubisoft changing it there's enough crying on this forum already a nerf of the AI will cause more
Yup. You nailed it.Originally Posted by MrBibbIes Go to original post
i like how you can give them a command to advance and attack and they free form, but its just a bit too hectic and loose. i think that if they moved slower, staying longer behind cover (especially if they were just shot), sprinting a lot less when near enemies and staying not too far from each other than their movement and this command would feel less of a cheat. the player could at least keep up with them.
but just like the vehicle drop got a more in depth command (chosing which vehicle to drop) i would love such options to all commands. or most. the attack command could have had a "Return fire only", "attack on sight" and "Charge forward" so you could toggle their behavior.
And the move command could have been "all move" or "one moves" and same with the follow me and hold position.
I was fooling around in Flor de Oro i think, and I wanted to do a big assault on this one Unidad base. Took out some guys stealthily, then called in rebels for a big attack. Cleared the first section of the base out no problem. So we were chilling behind some hescos and a bunch of Unidad guys were sneaking around the outside of the area we had, on the opposite side of the hescos. So, i get out my drone to watch them.
This is the funny part. Looking at them with my drone, I see Holt hop over the hescos and start doing the little sneaky walk the AI does, but literally in PLAIN SIGHT of Unidad, they are just walking around him about 10 feet away, completely ignoring him. Then i gave the command to open fire, and he just stands up and starts mowing down every single one of them. Theyre all shooting back, and theres blood shooting out of every orifice of Holt's body, getting shot at by an entire squad of Unidad, but it didnt seem to effect him. He just slaughtered every one of them. I'll try and get a video of it in here later but I'm at work right now. It was just like..what? I guess the enemy AI doesnt register the ghost ream until they actually start shooting, or you give them an order.
Must be just me but this comment had me crying laughing. I guess you just have to experience this in game. Good one man!Originally Posted by SuicidesShadow Go to original post![]()
A caveat to this is that they can be spotted if you parachute into an enemy hot zone and they land too close to an enemy, and they can be seen if you tell them to move to a certain spot or get them to wait too close to where an enemy is or patrol goes past. If you just let them do their own thing and don't ask them to do anything more than sync shots then yes, they are almost never seen.Originally Posted by biomag83 Go to original post
I agree with you, topeira1980, that the friendly AI team are too effective in some areas (basically invisible at times, being able to see and shoot through solid walls and floors etc.). But overall they are mostly useless for real tactical gameplay.
In full combat, even after the 3.5 patch mine are still falling to basic attacks against Narcs in the easiest province. I see no difference.
