Defensive meta is primarily a PC problem.

On console, you simply crack up the turtle with light spam.

Was your opponent playing from the other side of the planet?

It is possible, that he got a lot of bonus frames because of the high lag. Happened to me as well - on the giving and receiving end.

Try doing that (parrying lights) against bots in local games.
