I think I'm starting to figure this out.

I had to disable upnp on my router and restart uplay.

The connection type shows unknown until I connect to the matchmaking servers then it usually picks up the type and MM works as intended.

If I close down the game then open it again it shows unknown, but joining MM does not verify my NAT and it never connects to a game...ever. If I close the game, restart uplay, then start the game and try again it works.

It seems like the game has some connectivity dependency on the Uplay client and it's caching a connection parameter or token to the For Honor MM server. That would make sense considering that the game has to verify license with uplay's account servers before firing up. When I close the game and reopen that token is still cached and cannot reset itself for the new game session. Once Uplay is closed everything is all good again.

If that's the issue it should be a pretty straightforward fix.

Had the same problem after the hotfix. I checked all the rules in the firewall for the game and set a ban on bypassing nodes. Green nat, stable connection.

    Gods, it finally works

Cloud hotfix was just deployed. Got a message in game to restart the game. I reenabled upnp on my router and restarted the game.

    All good now. Thanks Ubi!

    PS4 connectivity

    - I'm on PS4.
    - Already did the whole port forwarding and static IP
    - Issue seems intermittent
    - It was working the whole day earlier and suddenly went on NAT Unknown
    - Couple of application relaunches seems to recognize it back to NAT Open
