THeir fix didn't change anything, good wardens will never do a full charge in a 1v1. So they can still be in your face, start a SB then cancel it to parry to an attack, cancel it to GB or let it fly uncharged for their guaranteed damage off of it. Your still just as screwed as you were before, they still have every advantage and again you just get to guess.

Not sure how the devs misjudged this one, but the problem was with the (so-called) "vortex spamming" within close-quarters ranges -- the range where both combatants are within reach of their weapons, and their base GB reach.

What the nerf did, was effect the "vortex" at mid-ranged (out of GB reach, weapons will connect at the tips) where the Warden cannot charge up SB to longer distances and prompt a response... but giving up on any realistic hopes of countering vortex through observation and reaction, and just staying out of close ranges, was a tactic most people were ALREADY using in the first place.

The problem is at close ranges where a short SB would activate faster than light attacks, and when SB lands always guarantees damage -- hence most people are reluctant to try and stop SB from activation and simply try to avoid it by dodging, at which point the GB cancel would counter it, and simply give out another different guaranteed heavy. Hence, the "1-button easymode 50/50".

At first I thought a possible counter after the nerf, would be preparing for GB the moment SB queue shows up, and then immediately going into a dodge right after the cancel-GB timing was past... but in reality, the GB cancel window is still too wide, and still offers a nearly perfect 50/50 without adequate means to counter it.

Frankly speaking, I thought the nerf idea they first written down in the 1.06 patchnotes preview was overly complex and ineffective as well. The issue could have been addressed by number of solutions that were not only simpler, but would be more effective as well.

    1. Simply. disallow the guaranteed damage after being hit by short SB, and only allow guaranteed damage after SB charged up for some time. So short SB would break your guard and stagger you so the Warden deals stamina damage and also holds the initiative.

    2. Or, greatly increase the stamina cost so one or two uses would have you on the verge of exhaustion. I mean, think about it. They removed the pseudo-50/50 from the Shugoki by stopping stam regeneration and disallowing knockdowns from a move that requires a telegraphed sprint distance and costs like half of your whole stamina (which was warranted, btw) and yet, they allow the "vortex", which, mechanics-wise, operates under the exact same principle, and yet the Warden can spam it continiously??

    3. Or, as a third option, which has been my long proposal, was to simply remove guaranteed hits from GB, which not only solves the Warden's vortex 50/50s, but also a whole bucket load of class balance problems and deals a significant blow to the turtlemeta overall.

Instead, they chose a complicated nerf that involves a complex plus-minus of milliseconds of timing, which really didn't do anything.

It's not that players couldn't deal with SB because their reaction was 100 milliseconds too slow. It was the ENTIRE UNREASONABLE SITUATION as a whole which pressured and hampered players from being able to do anything, that was the problem.
very well said , i disagree with number 3 , removing hit from gb is a bad idea, u will enter a balance disaster , the gap between some classes is very huge , only parries and gb are kinda making the classes looks somehow ballanced , which isn't true at all .

Why would he need a rework? he is perfectly fine in terms of his moveset. fast lights, double lights, heavy hitting heavies, quick zone, good dash.
He is almost like orochi in terms of his moveset... just with fcking vortex spam....
