    For Honor Heroes & History

Hey guys, based on CandleInTheDark thread to discuss supernatural connotations in some characters, I’ve decided to put together a list to gather the real historical representation and/or historical inspirations for all the heroes we have in the game.

There is also a parallel list that I will update periodically, based on popular vote and discussion in this thread, for the greatest (heroic and legendary) historical representation of the warriors, per hero class, that existed in the humankind history:

    --------------
    KNIGHTS
    --------------

    CONQUEROR
    • Heroic:
    • Legendary:

    LAWBRINGER
    • Heroic:
    • Legendary:

    PEACEKEEPER

    WARDEN

    -------------
    VIKINGS
    -------------

    BERSERK

    RAIDER
    • Heroic:
    • Legendary:

    VALKYRIE

    WARLORD
    • Heroic:
    • Legendary:

    ---------------
    SAMURAI
    ---------------

    KENSEI

    NOBUSHI

    OROCHI

    SHUGOKI
    • Heroic:
    • Legendary:

    -------
    DLC
    (characters to be confirmed)
    -------

    CENTURION

    NINJA

    HIGHLANDER

You shall notice that I was heavily based on Wikipedia to put together the initial list. Although overall fair, they are not the safest/most accurate source to gather info. Hardcore purists and polemologists, please don’t take offence and forgive me in advance if there is any abysmal error in the list.

This is a collaborative reference list, so let’s have some fun and create a concise one together!

I'd vote to put Altair under PK - he's totally a real-life historical figure right? :>
(I've always wondered, if you're an assassin by profession but everyone knows your name, can you really call yourself a good assassin?)

There is much controversy regarding the existence of Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad (and Malik). Best theory is that he was inspired by a real famous muslin assassin named El-Tahïr. Unfortunately, there's no official record of them.

Shugoki is based on sumo as evidenced by the tsuna (rope with little paper things hanging off) on several of the armor models and from the sumo emote (poorly performed shiko). While I doubt the designers picked specific people as the inspiration for each warrior, if you just want to stick names on a list, here are some candidates.

    Legendary: Akashi Shiganosuke
    Heroic: Raiden Tameemon

Shugoki case is more tricky, as I believe they were mainly inspired by the mythological Oni, like in this picture:

I would say they are a blend of: the Oni, the Sumo champions you posted and the Kanabō wielders samurai warriors. I'm still searching for a "perfect fit" thou.

    Thanks for the input!
