Well there you go brother, I stand corrected. Never played that game due to the "future" title, or any of the other GRs after the original, desert siege and island Thunder. The future "phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range" stuff holds no interest when my country is at war in the present.
Although the original was 'set' years ahead, of the release of the game. The gear and weapons (minus that one rifle that was in development) were all current.
So now the question becomes, why did they detach the original unit to make this new story? What was the point? D Co., 1st Bn., 5th SFG was not good enough or was Ubi looking to separate the original so they can fill their pockets by making it more international, selling it to a wider audience?
It appears that during this time the game mechanics also changed from being a true tactical planner/shooter with strategic aspects, to COD, dumb down run and gun. That's an insult to us, who know the old game and to how they think about today's gamers.
Oh how the times have changed. "Black Foot Studios - Ground Branch" the true future of tactical shooters is what's being programmed into the R2 unit now "our only hope."

Ok, thanks. All members of the United States armed forces. Why am I wearing a costume from the Division or wearing a "steel pot" helmet from WW2 or using a Bren gun? Do you not ask yourself that?
How do you explain a pink gun skin, on what planet or what reality does that take place? Why can I buy war paint of another country's flag to adorn? This is not Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. This is just a new kind of shooter.
Fool me once, shame on you. There will not be a second time because then - its on me.
Well I didn't have a problem with the original unit. I guess they wanted to make it more current like for instance having operators from different branches of the military and even different countries like the UK. Like Task Force 88, where according to the bio Nomad had 3 tours with. Task Force 88 is made up of Delta and DEVGRU operators, Rangers as well as elements from the British SAS, and the Ghost team consist of a guy from Delta, DEVGRU and two Rangers.Originally Posted by TangoOneActual Go to original post
Hey man I agree with you... it's alot of dumb and irrelevant stuff they are adding.Originally Posted by TangoOneActual Go to original post
Not mad at you brother, I was in Norway in 89 for "Arctic Warrior" with 2nd Marines. I don't have a problem with any country's armed forces, but I love my country's.
If I was in a game playing a Norwegian commando unit in the 80's, attacking Soviet forces invading Norway, I would complain if they gave my equipment that was not Norwegian issue.
CoolOriginally Posted by TangoOneActual Go to original post, thank you for your service. I understand your point, they should just add more equipment relevant to the US military since the Ghost are a US unit. BTW at least today Norwegian Special Forces use the same weapons and equipment as US Special Forces do, I'm not too sure about the 80's since it was before I was born.
It was essentially just a cover story (a nonsensical one, but I digress), they were never Green Berets for the simple fact that they don't do what actual Special Forces Groups do---train and lead indigenous forces.Originally Posted by TangoOneActual Go to original post
Lol at mister i'm a veteran pay attention and due respect to me!
no one gives a **** about you,you didnt fight for me,the game is NOT made by AN american COMPANY TOWARDS american CONSUMERS.,but a FRENCH COMPANY towards WORLDWIDE players. There are plenty enough games where the protaganist is american,
I for one would welcome the next ghost recon be more like Rainbow Six classic, with a multitude of nationalities to pick. This is a WORK OF FICTION, after all.
