The reason you dont meet that many Valks in 1v1 is simple, she is just to weak. I am playing Valky and Warden, it is just unreal how strong warden is compared to Valk.
As soon as people are able to block a 15f light she becomes almost not viable and you have to rely on your basics, like reading your opponent, blocking, parrying, dodging & baiting. Just because you dont got any viable tool left, especialy vs a realy defensiv player.
I will try to give you an inside look at her weak spots, when and where to dodge.
1st. you need to understand her strings, with her different variation, than i ll explain you the weak spots, why they are weak and how you can use this.
Her basic chain is based off 3 attacks. i might call them A B & C. These can be shortened in to A C, but makes the gb/sweep mixup fairly easy to handle.
A is the starter: a light attack or a dodged light attack, or a heavy or heavy cancel into shoulder.
- the dodged light on block is a free untechable gb
- the heavy and the heavy cancel into shoulder can be dodged. If you got a hero with a dodge attack you can go for this
- the shoulder takes some time to impact and also has a very small range, you can try to go for a fast attack to interrupt this
- if you try to dodge the shoulder, do it imediatly, no timing needed, just dodge asap and dodge to a side, to get a free gb
B is usually a 15f light attack - this is somehow already a weak spot, because people can react to it and block.
- if you block this attack, you cant get sweeped! The only option a valk could do is a gb, so do not dodge after you blocked this and you are fine!
- some people are able to parry 15f attacks, and especialy this is a juicy one. Because it is unfeintable. Means after the first light, you will a) see another light or no attack. No needs to worry about a
feint or mix up + it is a light, a parried light grants more damage than a heavy + you will be always in range for a gb.
I know this sounds strange but this is possible on PC and probably the point off destroying Valky or getting destroyed by her. It just comes down to handle this 2nd light attack. If you cant parry, a block is still fine!
C: is the finisher or the mixup.
(- a top 18f light, that covers a lot space)
(- 18f side light for very few damage and stun)
(- heavy or a feint or a shoulder again)
- sweep / gb mix up
I put every option that is not viable in to "()". These are usualy to slow (lights) or are compared to the sweep / gb to weak. As an example. The heavy into shoulder eats a lot stamina and is only good for kicking people of edges, while it takes ages compared to the sweep which is usualy just better in this exact option (but you should know about this is option)
!! Unfortunatly, the gb/sweep mix up is really strong, the sweep is hard to dodge, because after taking a hit, you char is stagering a bit. If you try to dodge during this, you wont be able to dodge the sweep!! So you basicly have to wait until the very last moment to dodge it and this is the moment where you might get caught by the gb instead. I feel like it is pure 50/50 while the sweep on his own is already close to guaranteed. As explained before, it all comes down to the 2nd light attack.
To get a free gb after dodge the sweep you have to dodge to a side, you can god for any side. It is not easier for any hero. A dodge attack can counter both, if the valk is doing a mistake. In general, a hero with dodge attack turns this 50/50 into a 33/33/33
Now the A C string variation, a far easier to handle one.
A can only be one of the 3 shoulder attacks. So mention these: The fulblock version, the heavy into shoulder or the heavy cancel into shoulder.
These can only be ended by a sweep or gb, no other options. A sweep after a shoulder can be dodged on reaction, so wait untill you see her going down, means if you just wait you can quite easy counter the gb or dodge the sweep, remember to dodge to a side. If you play vs a valky that is just going for this, you can always escape with a double dodge or roll.
Her last remaining tools, are a zone cancel and the usual basics. due to her lowdamage, she is an easier match up and a way weaker hero than you might expect.
tl;dr: block the 2nd light in the chain and you are fine, parry it and valk is basicly done.
