Lawbs aren't "overpowered" per se.
Compared to some other classes which are undisputedly "OP", I do understand the limitations of their "kit" and why they resort to such things in the first place. Nevertheless, from the opponent's perspective the whole style is frankly cheesy as shi* and doesn't really fit the profile of a heavily armored combatant with a poleaxe.
Lawb's is one those cases where a class that is sub-par by default, is overcompensated and totally reliant on a flawed game element, hence it's players will aggressively defend it on grounds that the Lawb's got nothing without abusing those skills -- which is true -- and it's opponent's will also aggressively complain about how frustrating and bullshi* things can be when you fight the Lawb -- which is also true.
The lack of solid offensive capabilities, combined with the "turtlemeta", makes it difficult to play a Lawb aggressively -- which is, btw, a problem that plagues around half of the game's classes -- so naturally Lawb players also resort to very passive and reactive playstyle, and usually become quite skilled in defense. Fighting a "wall" that nothing you throw at ever gets through, is always not very fun in any game -- and this is doubly penalized due to the fact that a good, solid defense also automatically guarantees damage a la the "turtlemeta".
So basically, Lawb's one of those classes that's stronger when passive and reactive, rather than aggressive and proactive. So from the get-go, fighting a Lawb is as boring as hell.
The second part of this problem, is UbiMont's poor design on unblockable(UB) skills. I've posted about this many times, so to just summarize it, UB skills in FH are designed the wrong way, and made basically spamworthy, since more than half of the UB skills in this game are:
(1) relatively fast and safe to use
(2) yields additional combat advantages in the form of CC or status effects
(3) and all monopolized by a few classes -- leaving rest of the classes with crappy, slow, conditional UBs like Nobs.. Kenseis.. Raiders.. etc etc..
Lawb happens to be one of the classes gifted with all sorts of UBs, and a nice, spamworthy one. UB by default bypasses blocks, and it so happens the shoving's also unparriable, and usually activates faster than most light attacks.
So you face off a Lawb, he doesn't attack, he just stands there, blocks and parries most of your attacks. The range is drawn closer, and then the shove spam starts, so now you don't dare try any attacks -- hence, you're pressured, can't dare block or parry, you're focus is thrown off, and now you're open to GBs. People usually say "dodge the shove" but c'mon who we kiddin' here. Even in tourney-level fights, people don't just dodge shoves. Usually people stay out of range to handle it.
Add to that another set of easy-activation UBs like pancake flippin' and the "circle-jerking" spear to the gut and basically sums up the frustration people go through when meeting a good Lawb.
But the other side of the coin.
Since my favorite classes are also exclusively those that don't have any spamming powers, I know how difficult it is to do anything when you don't have those "cheapshot" spam powers like some of the other classes have -- especially in this "turtlemeta". Using a Kensei or Raider, for example, is a lot like how a Lawb is, except these don't have any "openers" nor easy-spammed UBs. Can't even fire off a UB with a Kensei when 1v2 or 1v3 becasuse it requires at least 1 attack to come out normally... .*sigh*
So it's difficult to take a side when it's a case like the Lawb. But one thing for certain -- the longer the devs leave the 'spammable UBs' untouched, the longer people will grow accustomed to it, and as consequence will be more difficult to fix.
Also, spam skills are in general detrimental to the game. Like it or not, Lawb players should not turn their eye from this fact -- nor any other similar spamming for any other class players for that matter.
I've seen a LOT of players resorting to "non-spamming" ... until I beat their rep3 character within 2 shots from death with my rep0 character, and then ho boy -- here comes the spam. It's in the kit. The temptations always great.
I'm, not gonna lie. I'm not a great player. If we rate the real beginner with no clue as to how FH is played at 0, and the most masterful of players at 100, I'd be around maybe 35~40ish. But then again, usually in terms of gamer demographics, about 60~75% of the entire gaming population of any given PvP game is usually at my level. People around 90~100 in skill level usually take up less than 5% total. More like 2%. So, taking into account me, an average player, beating a superior geared player within inch of his life when he doesn't use any spam skills, but things just turning around the moment the spam starts tells a lot. Spams are hated for a reason. Counters do exist, but usually spam skills require MUCH higher skill level to defend yourself from, whereas using them to good effect takes much less skill.
Hence, I usually use the "gun" analogy when explaining why spam skills are bad. It's basically a gun in the other guy's hand, when you have just a sword. Can you dodge it? It's a game, so yeah. Sometimes. But the problem is the probability of average people dodging that bullet is way too low, than compared to the guy holding the gun hitting its mark being way too high for such a simple move. That's by definition, what imbalance is.
If FH needs to persist with longetivity in its game life, at least long enough for players to not feel ripped off, then balancing is inevitable. And this means some of your favorite stuff could be gone.
Hence, I'd rather see Lawbs buffed in some other areas with reasonably fair results to be expected, but some of his UBs... there's no way around it. It's gotta go.
