    Old small tv's = ninja

    Old small tv's = ninja

I'v been playing fusion on a 40" HDTV
    since day one.
For the last 3 weeks or so i have
used an older and smaller tv.

I didnt really noticed anything at first,
then i decided to start playing ninjas again.
Its not like i smashed level 2s,
but i passed a bunch of them on
first try. Stuff just went surprisingly
"easy", i also did reach cp's on some
really tough tracks that i never reach before.

I certainly lack technique and experience to pass higer levels,
but not untill now i never saw my
self having any real chance of getting to that level of bike controll.

Then, i got access to my large HDTV again,
i was chocked! What had happened?
Everything felt so sluggish, we are
talking about milliseconds, but even so,
    the different felt huge!
There was a clear controller latency. I Just couldnt do the same
    ninja obstacles like before....

I went through every setting on
both the tv and the xbox one.
    I changed the hdmi cable,
i played on the lowest possible
    display settings, nothing helped.

My youngest son came by, i complained about this horrible input lag and asked him to try play
a few tracks that he was familiare with.
To my surprise, he didnt felt that anything was different!

Then i started to suspect something... did the smaller tv in fact have lower latency? And over
the last few weeks, i simply had gotten used to the few milliseconds better responce time?

I quickly changed over to the old and smaller Tv and BAM! Everything felt crisp and tight again!
I could stick to vertical walls like never before, i could climb intricate technical obstacles with ease..
Much Much better controll over the
    bike in general.

    Then i remembered a thread a few
years ago, i dont remember if it was
fusion or evo, but in a ninja discussion some of the top players
insisted that 1. A wired controller and 2. Playing on an old tv, made
    all the different.

The part about the old tv wasnt
really taken seriously from a lot of
the riders in the discussion. Including myself. I could understand that a wired controller
Would do better than a wireless.
But how could an old tv be better
than new technology? That must be bs... I thought.

Now, several years later and after
googling around about controller input lag and latency, after having
experienced this myself first hand... I stand corrected!

It suddenly make perfect sence that
on top of the ninja throne there is
a rider that allways used to make
YouTube videos with his mobile phone, pointing it towards an old small tv

    Just to finish up;
No, an old tv wont make you a ninja.
But finding a tv or a tv-setting that reduce
the input lag will grately improve your chances.
And No, its not only old tv's that got
    good / low input lag.

This link can be useful, an in-depth writeup about input-lag, tv settings etc..

    Oh.. One last ting,
i have been using both expressions
    to try describe my experience;

    1. Input lag (which is correct) and
    2. Response time

    Sorry about that.

"Note:*Do not confuse the input lag time with the response time. The response time is the time it takes*a pixel to shift from one color to another, which is significantly shorter than the input lag time. Response time is related to motion blur."

After reading a lot about this
It's to my understanding that tv producers often talks about
    their great short response time,
often down to 5-12ms or less.
    They almost never talk about
input lag, which is the important
    part for gamers.
