    Ranked Play / Tournament Suggestion

I'm hoping to see this soon. I understand have to do some balancing first, but here's a suggestion.

The focus is on character selection for ranked play.
I am an overall rank of 16 with no character higher than 4. I've played em all, and enjoy them all.

In my experience, the most enjoyable games are those with variety, while the least enjoyable games are teams stacked with the flavor of the week.

There needs to be a restriction on character select for ranked/tournament play. I like player choice, but fighting all of the same character is more annoying than fun.

A draft selection would be preferred, but even free choice works.

    Harshest Rules:
No character can be selected more than once. Additionally, only one character from each class type can be selected with the exception of vanguard.

    Not so bad:
No character can be selected more than once.

I actually would prefer the harsher rules with a draft-mode set-up. Curious to hear what anybody else thinks. Bottom line, free for all choice I feel is a bad choice for competitive play.

Why is freely picking bad for competitive play?

Having multiple of the same characters will lead to some cheesy strategies once rank and actually winning matters.

Allowing one of each character will do a lot to prevent that. Games with such a nice variety of characters to pick from will always have some sort of balance issue. I think the harsher rules might be a little too restrictive actually, but no duplicate characters will keep the compositions fun to fight against.

I like the Warlord. I'll take em on when he's fighting near a ledge. But if a whole team picks him and decides to camp a bridge, much more boring of a fight. And I fear this might happen more once winning carries more weight.

I might suppose, however in your example, a shugoki charge would kill all of them. It may be good to do as you say, but we should not let that mentality trickle into non-ranked as that carries no actual weight.

Oh my gosh. That would mean, at times, that i am unable to play my favorite heros? Why bothering with ranked at all then when i would be forced into some premade groups?

It is okish for brawl if you can leave in case your partner uses you main. It would be terrible for 4on4's because it would mean people not playing ranked at all or leaving lobbies.

What do you dislike btw in the current 4on4's? I think they are mostly fine. No problems with variety.

Something that (personally) would be more of a dealbreaker for ranked, would be premades vs randoms without thought.
With this, you have two problems: If you match them, premade players that play nicely as a team will be incredibly strong thus high rated and matched against individually extremely strong players. However, if you queue on your own afterwards, you are likely to get obliterated.

For the sake of fast queues, matching both up would be the best thing to do. But for a working implementation, premades would need to have their rating adjusted for every player in the team. Because, you know, when well played together, they can become more then the sum of their parts

In the end, what i do expect, is kinda what we have now only with an added ladder behind it. Would like it way more btw. then some stupid limited draft stuff :/

IMO ranked play should promote variety. I realize this is not a MOBA but the ranked format could be similar to that of say SMITE for example: You must have at least 4 heroes to reputation 1 before entering a ranked match, but once you do you can select any hero from the roster. This would let your team know that you are at least somewhat seasoned with more than just one hero. There are a limited amount of heroes right now but when say even the next 3 are added, ranked 4v4 could have somewhat of a draft setup:
    - Attackers pick 1
    - Defenders pick 2
    - Attackers pick 2
    - Defenders pick 2
    - Attackers pick 1
This way both teams on paper have 3 counter picks each.

No duplicate heroes on the same team, but both teams can select the same as the opposing.

As far as ranked duel and brawl go just plug and play as it is now, unless someone has a better suggestion for competitive 1v1 and 2v2.

Just my 2 cents. Would like to hear others feedback on the concept, positive or otherwise.

    Regards
