Yeah, a few observations about SAM launcher sites...
First of all, i'm not complaining about them. They're fine as is, there are many techniques to avoid detection or incoming misiles, that's not the point.
I would like to point out some minor inconsistencies, that could very well lead to easy but interesting improvements to the game.
- Have tracable cables to convey power from the generator to the SAM launcher (and to the lights and drone jammer too, if possible). For those of us playing on Extreme with no markers and not using rebel spotting, sometimes being able to fly over the base with a chopper or to fly your drone is essential. It would be nice to be able to trace back the generator by following the cables that tie it to the SAM launchers. plus, it doesn't really make any sense for a machine that's seemingly autonome to magically deactivate when the genny is down.
- Have the SAM launchers ignore Unidad crafts. This would need a bit of tweaking as currently rebel-spawned choppers are listed as Unidad, if i'm not mistaken. But still, how is it that the Cobra I managed to steal in that Unidad base isn't cleared for takeoff and gets shot down by the base's own SAM launchers? Or that the SAMs preternaturally know that that Black Hawk flying over them isn't manned by Unidad? [I know that this could be explained by radio clearance and stuff, but the SAM launchers seem to be automatic systems that do not require any human control, plus you don't see a control tower in every single outpost).
- How is it that when you shoot a SAM launcher with a high caliber rifle (say, the HTI), the main body of it seems to explode, but that little antenna keeps spinning and the machine is perfectly operationaL? Is that a feature or a bug?
As usual, feel free to share your opinion, and I hope the Team sees this
Good game everyone!
Good points. I posted a SAM idea in another thread, and I'll post it here as well:
How do SAM sites discern friend from foe? Do they shoot down every aircraft that flies above? We don't drag "SHOOT ME DOWN" banners when we fly, so how do SAM sites know we're enemies?
There should be a game mechanic in which you have to identify your aircraft when flying over protected airspace. Those ID's should be gathered on the sites where you stole the aircraft from. If we don't identify your aircraft, or if we fail to identify it, we should get SAMs up our tailpipes and deal with them like we currently do...

Cool suggestions all around, guys! Thanks for sharing!
Haven't encountered this personally, though I'll see what I can find for youOriginally Posted by Flake-FR Go to original postDo you happen to have a video showing this?
I will have to see if I have a video myself. Best place this happens I know for myself, not sure about others, is the Koani Air Base at the top left side of the province, Koani.Originally Posted by Ubi-Iudex Go to original post
