My advice is that unless you have SAMs targeting you, when planning your approach let go of the throttle or at least ease up a bit when making your approach. Then feather the reverse throttle as you come in to land, making minor adjustments to angle and pitch. Once you hit the dirt pull hard on the reverse throttle.
If you get the hang of this there is a slightly quicker and much more dangerous version of landing which pretty much involves dive bombing the runway whilst holding full reverse and then pulling up in the last moments. You sometimes need to use some forward throttle to pull up though so I would advise really knowing how to handle the plans and not doing these landings in the dark unless it is a clear and open landing strip.
