How the hell are you supposed to do some of these missions in solo? I just tried the one in Montoyuc and the game springs like 20 enemies out of the ground, 1-2 cars and 2 helicopters?! How are you supposed to keep the transmitter alive during that mess. I thought changing loadout to something stronger would help but it doesn't. I switched to the HTI and I have 3 points in the vehicle destruction and it is still taking 4+ hits to bring down the helicopters, if you can do it at all because your team cannot do a thing, they are absolutely useless at killing soldiers.
Dear jeannaq,
I did every mortar side mission alone, due to my night shifts and my late start in the game, I don't want to slow down a whole multiplayer group.
So in general it's not hard and complicated, maybe you need for one station more than one try.
My load out is MK17 Assault rifle with suppressor and the MK48 machine gun. Try to only use your machine gun, it's really effective against air patrols.
If you see roads close to the station, put some mines on the road for enemies who are arriving with a car.
So before you start the transmission, use the rebel reinforcements, so a whole group will come to you, now start the event and set your group to "open fire". So they will attack every enemy in range.
If you see your team runs too far away from the station, call them back and select again open fire.
Every enemy just fires on the station when they don't have other targets. But when someone attack them, AI or you, they will attack the most dangerous part.
I hope it will help you a bit.![]()
It's WAY harder than it should be! I have played on the extreme setting since I got the game, but had to switch to ARCADE mode in order to defend the rebel radio.
Not exaggerating, it took me almost 2 hours to finally make it 2+ minutes on arcade mode while solo defending the effing radio. I don't think I'm that bad.
Equipping the grenade launcher was a huge help for taking out the two choppers.
Fully leveled distraction/guns for hire go a long way. Those rebels are actually lot more useful in a firefight than your AI Ghosts.Originally Posted by jeannaq Go to original post
Also, you don't really need to do all the missions to max the mortar skill. As such, you might want to try looking for some radios that are more easily defensible - Montuyoc is a 5* difficulty zone.
I finally did it, after approximately 20 tries and having to lower the difficulty to arcade and even then it took a couple goes I finally managed to get it. Though I did, once again, confirm glaring issues with the team mate AI. I had told them to regroup and then told them to fire, and the order went through, but 2 of them just casually walked around with their guns on their shoulder while they are being shot at! Their IQ is lower than the number of people in the squad. I finally did it with an LMG, upgraded it with a long barrel and a red dot and it tears through helicopters, so I think that thing is my designated defense weapon. Still it would be nice to have a blasted rocket or missile! You are a ghost, you shouldn't be trying to take down a helicopter with small arms!
If the HTI isn't one-shotting every helicopter, and your VHC is maxed, you should take the suppressor off.
On almost all of them there is an area very close that gets you a little high off the ground. A one story building, a shed, a shack. Get up there and use your favorite LMG PRONE. I know the weapons don't have a bi-pod, but being prone with a fully auto LMG sure acts like it.
So simplified:
1. use the HTI unspressed to one-shot all vehicles except the armored trucks (The Santa Blanca HUMMER and the UNIDAD one) as those are 2-shots. As long as one enemy is still interacting with the vehicle, it will blow it up instantly killing the group.
2. Use and LMG prone if possible to dust all the infantry.
The only time this has failed me was when a heli corpse crashed the transmitter, ending the mission instantly
Personally for most of them I use my standard loadout of MSR and AUG. Turn your suppressor off, setup mines and C4. If you aren't a proficient shooter with a sniper switch to the HTI or an LMG for the choppers. Usually I put mines on the 1 or 2 leading roads and C4 in the surrounding building corners. I always call Guns for Hire and set AI to Open Fire. Admittedly, some are much harder than others but I have got that one in Montuyuc donw pretty much now as there seem to be 4 spawn points for the enemies on foot, 1 spawn point for choppers & 1 spawn point for vehicles.
