I'm a guy who likes to try and min-max my stats with stuff, and I've been having a hard time deciding on an assault rifle. (I'm down to a good 5 or 6, but they're all so close in stats when setup the same way) I've been going for stability and accuracy, but also trying to keep handling from being zero.
Does a stat boost count beyond filling the white bar for that stat? (like accuracy) The G36 and MK17 I was testing, were both more or less laser accurate with a max accuracy bar, (I was testing these two extensively because they come with compensated stocks, and I wanted to see if that made them better than weapons that do not have compensated stocks) but I was wondering if the bonuses worked if I went beyond that. If so, then I'll go all accuracy mods. My guns have mostly handling boosts, since accuracy was very quickly maxed with the first couple of attachements. I tend to use assault rifles in more of a semi-auto/burst-fire setup at medium to long ranges. Mostly in "DMR" type setups. (20 round mag, semi-auto, long barrels, accuracy, etc)
I found the TAR-21 the perfect supplement to my sniper rifle. Before getting my hands on that gun, I used the AUG A3.
While MK17 has a better damage/range/accuracy/penetration, it loses out on the handling and rate of fire. So it's less effective at close range firefights that TAR-21 or even AUG A3 and for the long range engagements, I prefer a dedicated sniper rifle.
It's basically a middle ground between a sniper rifle and an assault rifle, so if your second weapon was an SMG, or a shotgun, the MK17 would be the perfect choice.
But for an assault rifle/sniper rifle combo, it gets outperformed on both fronts by the more specialized rifles.
I run G2 and G28. Perfect combo for me. G2 just rocks because of the RPM. When close enough no one survives. Sometimes I just spray the area when hunted by a bunch of baddies... usually no one survives.
TAR used to be for a long time, then the SR3M came along, but when I got the G2, they all went packing
The best AR is the one you feel most comfortably with, and that suits your play style. You can pretty much be successful in this game with any weapon. I try to give every weapon I encounter a fair chance to show what they can offer.
Having said all that, I like both the ACR and AK-12 a lot. They're great at close-medium range up to 120 meters (I've had kills with them at that range, maybe a bit more), they hit hard, accuracy can be maxed out with the right attachments, and you can equip high capacity magazines on both...
