How do I play this game??

OK. This is a stupid question.
The first 2 missions were easy, and had clear objectives. There seemed to be no way to get lost or off task. Now I am in the third mission and all I have been doing for 3 days is running around the dessert, smashing up cars, and getting into occasional gun battles in small villages, or shooting at Lamborghinis.
What am I trying to do here? Yesterday I joined the "online" game, but we were all doing the same pointless stuff.
What does it mean when an ally has a green dot near them?
What does it mean when an ally has a blue dot near them? AI player?

Why do some cars have a purple glow on the map? Is it essential to blow them up?
How do I expand the round map?
Where is my next objective located?
Is there a gunsmith in game?
Why cant I hear any real online players talking and coordinating?
Should I pick up dead enemies guns or are they crap?
PLease help me understand this game. (Previos games played GR Phantoms, GR Online, GR Future Solder, GR original)
    Thanks in advance

Head towards any exclamation points, question marks, and especially yellow files marked in the area. Missions will start popping up.

But that was our choice. You can do it however you want.

That has been my process albeit doing it solo.

However, the last time I played...decided to go off road dirt biking on the trails in Monte Puncu and looking for targets of opportunity.

    Good basic overview BTW.
