Indeed. Just hover a few meters above the ground and you're set.

Agreed, hug the ground when you fly, it's a skill worth learning.

I had an epic experience that made me wish I had recorded my game play (which usually sucks!) for the first time.
I was flying some comms supplies for one of the side missions, passed over several unidad and santa blanca areas all at the same time. I was flying pretty high as the route was taking me over a mountain range. all is well, when suddenly the sky is full of missiles!
Some vomit inducing flying occurred, which involved the plane being upside down, twisting left and right, I even landed briefly on the side of the mountain range! The whole affair was pretty hairy, but I dodged, probably 4 missiles, felt pretty proud of myself when I landed the supplies.
I kinda like them, for moments like this! Must hit Alt-Z next time though!

That only works sometimes in my experience. I've been spotted by SAM sites in a helo while flying maybe 4 feet above ground. Any closer than that to the ground, might as well ditch the chopper and drive. Once they start to spot you and you fly down to avoid them, they'll lock on regardless, unless you immediately put a hill between you and the SAM. If you're in an area with multiple SAM sites, such as the areas around the mausoleum, forget it...

Its far more fun flying at very low altitude and weaving around the mountains and skimming the water beside switching seats fools the rockets anyway

Yeah... i got in a chopper and it lifted just that tiny bit in the air it's want to do when idle sometimes and a SAM not only locked but fired and destroyed my heli. Flying low to the ground only works if the SAM site that is targeting you is at level altitude to you, if you are at a higher altitude regardless of how close you are to the ground you will be locked on and fired at. (unless you put a mountain between you and the SAM)

This is an issue that does need addressing. In my experience, ive been locked on after landing the heli, and shot at as im running away from the heli. Luckily, ive never been near the explosion to where it would kill me.

This has altered my gameplay. When im in a region i know has SAMs, i dont even bother flying.
