I'm sure this has been brought up before now, but I'm bringing it up again. Why are there no knives in any capacity save for the useless aesthetic ones strapped to our harnesses? Can this truly be the only game of this nature to completely omit the use of knives? How absurd is that? It still baffles me an enemy wearing a helmet stays down from a love tap on the head. Seriously, how was this not addressed after BETA testing?
I really, really hope knives are presented as an option (particularly in stealth kills) in coming patches and DLC. I'm loving the game for all it has to offer, but the lack of knives and melee weapons in general is a real bummer.
I would LIKE to say it is because of realism. but I wonder.
It is either because:
1. system game resources, as postwick3 says. Why waste time on knife mechanics when you can use processor capacity to, say, render larger environments? It comes down to choice. I would rather have something else instead of glitchy knife kills that favor high reaction time arcade games.
OR
2. the same reason you can't insta-throw a grenade. It would make it a halo/COD wanna be and cheapen the game's strategy of trying to introduce a nuance of reality in a game format.
Besides, the most lethal weapons in conventional combat are almost entirely from mortars, artillery, heavy machine guns.... and long guns. Statistically pistols as an offensive weapon of war are almost insignificant, and that is to say nothing of how rare a "knife kill" must be.
Of course this game suggests SPEC OPS and those statistics may be different... but I suspect the statistics are NOT much different for small operations. There are probably still very few pistol and knife kills.
One thing is for sure... if HOLLYWOOD and GAMES depict a lot of knife kills you can BET that REALITY IS DIFFERENT. That alone convinces me that knives are a non-factor.
Here are some World War II stats which was a whole lot more hand-to-hand than current conflicts.
3/4ths of kills were from mortar, grenade, bomb, shell
1 in 10 from rounds from various machine guns, long guns and anti-vehicle mines.
1 in 10 were from personnel mines (Europe) and booby traps (mostly pacific)
Less than 1 in 10 from any other reason like chemical, other type of blast, crushing from collapse of building or mechanized operations, etc.
Correct, plus there should be throwing knives also, why limit lot's of real thing that Navy Seals use, i even can't shot from in the water and Order wheel don't work in the water, ubisoft really need to watch Navy Seals/Seal Team 6 movies and documentary to learn more on how real combat going![]()
In the Rainbow Six Novel written by Good Ol' Tom the Operators kill only by a 3 Shot Burst to the face. But since we're able to sneak so close behind our enemies, we should be able to stab them to death. And with the right knife we could cut through fences.
I would also like to see some more bone breaking Steven Seagal like combos.
And it would be cool if our Operator would drink some water after he had to run through the jungle for a few km or climbed on top of a mountain. come on, don't be lazy ubi.
Few ideas for knives/hawks the "Spartan Blades George V-14 Dagger" would be top of the list if they were only to do one knife, it's made by former Green Berets for Green Berets can't think of a better option for the game that fits in with the story.
The RMJ Hawks are used by some in SOF and conventional forces.
The Chris Reeve's knives are designed specifically for guys in SOF.
Threw in a few interesting knives made by very reputable knife makers that are for the most part takes on proven fighting knife designe's to give some veriety to the pitch if they where to go all out and add a few into the game but again if only adding one the dagger is the one to beat.
