I don't fully understand this ability but from my experience I've noticed that it works best against assassin class, like pk or orochi, but you have to recognize the pattern for you to be able to do it.
I want it buffed to where light attack spammers are stunned after deflect is activated so orochi's heavy attack can go through and it is no interrupted by spam. If you spam light and get deflected and your opponent is prepared to use a heavy deflect with orochi then it only makes sense that the orochi player gets the heavy off.
Devs I suggest you test orochi's deflect because I dont believe it works on unparryable and I dont believe it works on certain attacks.
If i'm not mistake the intention regarding deflect is to enable it against every attack at the moment of impact. I've attempted it against heavy lights, but with failure. I got it on light sides light top rush, storm rush, but I don't recall hitting it against a heavy.
I think it is worth looking into. Also the berserker's spin move went through it as well, which I don't think is intentional.
Yea on one hand it makes the light attack after deflect obsolete if the heavy is guaranteed. But on the other hand the current status of deflect is i feel atleast is not as good or safe of an option as parry and it thus sees limited use from me. I feel you though i really want deflect to be viable in some way.
i've been using and training on orochi exclusively, and i agree on the heavy deflect being useless because it can be avoided.
but, they do have several options to enhance it..
1. like OP suggested, to make it unavoidable by making it faster (it's only natural for orochi because he's a fast character)
2. after a successful deflect, you're protected for the duration of WG/HB if it's triggered.
3. allow the player to perform WG/HB from a different direction (like doing a zephyr slash), which also gives the opponent a fair chance to faint or roll back (if he's not just spamming light attacks), and doesn't make orochi over powered..
Orochi's heavy after deflect is unsafe yes, but it's so uncommonly done that when you do do it, you might pull it off. I've only been playing orochi for a couple days and I've attempted 5 of the heavy after deflect attacks and I've landed 4 of them, even against a few better players. The only one I didn't land was against a valk on their lunge attack, but I should've guessed they'd swing again to interrupt because valks are always trying to get their light combos off, blocked or not. I've had the most success against PKs that are trying forward or side lunges. Some players might be trying to dodge backwards after the deflect because they're in full panic.
Though I'd never try this against a top tier player. The timing of the deflect is the same as a parry, so I'd rather get the parry into gb heavy or possible throw other a bar of light deflect damage.
What about making the Heavy Uninteruptable and let us Chose on which direction it comes From.
So it would be a lot More rewarding for Orochis to do it, but enemy can Still Parry it if they are able and therefore get a free GB into Heavy or Whatever.
High Risk/High Reward.
But I Agree the Deflect mechanic needs some tuning to make it more viable over Parry!
His light is by PK's actually. Well....trades more often then not. I've seen pk's smack the cockroachs during their light deflects.Originally Posted by Viruletic Go to original post
They could just remove the heavy deflect attack, because if it is unavoidable, why use the light one. There is a reason why they are not both unavoidable and they don't have the same damage.
And deflect should not be better. To get a good balance the reward from parry should be less. No free GB, at most a light attack.
