Open Question to Ubisoft: Is this why we cannot customize our Ghost Team?

I'd like to start by saying that I highly anticipated this game, in terms of an open world, tactical shooter. I love realism, attention to detail, freedom of choice, and a focus on cooperative play, especially as it pertains to anything military. After sinking a few weekends into this game, I have to say that I am extremely disappointed with how this game came out at release. I was sincerely hoping this would be "The Game We've All Been Waiting For", and looking at some of the threads on this forum, I don't feel the need to elaborate on any of the issues I have with the game. All that being said, I'm still optimistic about the future of the game, especially if Ubisoft takes its dedicated player base seriously. I hope to make my own suggestions about tweaks, bugs, fixes and additions I'd like to see. But first, I have to know if Ubisoft is paying attention.

I've seen Ubisoft's responses to some of the concerns on the forum, and while it reassures me that they are actually reading the posts, I feel the responses lack detail and transparency. What I'm asking for is a detailed response to my following question, on this forum, for everyone to read:

One of my biggest problems with the game is the inability to customize my AI Team Mates in Singleplayer. I've seen it mentioned in multiple threads, so I won't go into detail about why this option is wanted/needed. What I did notice is that 5.11 Tactical, the outfitter that is sponsered in-game through the clothing available in the Charactersmith, is currently advertising 4 sets of clothing and equipment on their website named "Nomad" "Weaver" "Midas" and "Holt". As clearly stated on the webpage, they offer you the same clothing and equipment that your AI characters wear in-game, as well as Nomad's default look, featured in the loading screens and pre-release trailers.

My Question is: Are we unable to customize our teamates because of some advertisement deal with 5.11 Tactical? Do our teamates represent sponsered ads for Crye and 5.11? If so, was is mandated that our teamates not be altered through the charactersmith to avoid the loss of that advertisment?

Perhaps I'm looking too far into this, but if Ubisoft could be please a clear and concise answer to why our teamates cannot have their appearence altered, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping that the feature doesn't come along in a further update that has pre-set outfits that were designed by the aforementioned companies.

I hope to hear some feedback at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

Also, on the 5.11 Website, they have Weaver labeled as Midas, and vice versa.

Wow..this would make a LOT of sense, especially if 5.11 Tactical were the ones who designed the outfits and gave it to the dev team. If this is the case, Id say the possibility for AI team customization is a lost cause. Good luck getting a clear response from Ubisoft, Im hoping to know the answer to this as well.

Edit: After looking on 5.11's website at the ghost outfits..they arent even what the ghosts wear in game. And they added on some BS items like hatchets and gloves and knives and watches, just to sell more of their stuff..and they put their gear on them in place of Crye gear or one of their own backpacks..if this is the reason we cant customize them, that is a true shame and Im sure it has Tom Clancy rolling over in his grave.

I've noticed that Midas has a large knife on his chest rig, a larger DM Scarf, and of course....his bloused boots. I'm wondering if the inability to use their own charactersmith led to the devs adding in little touches such as those, which I would've preferred to use on my own character...

One of the devs mentioned in another thread that each of the AI character's outfits are unique, not made with Charactersmith (i noticed this when I saw that Weaver and Midas' chest rigs are not available in game).

I also took the liberty of emailing 5.11 tactical on this issue, asking if they had any sort of deal in place with Ubisoft. Hopefully I will get a response without getting laughed at, lol.

I think the answer is far simpler than any sponsorship deal, esp as 5.11 do not dress their own Ghosts from their tactical showcase movies like the Ghosts in the game. They did not expect people to be so passionate about having the ability (their focus on this title is Co-Op) and was taken aback by the rather crazy storm of feedback requesting it. Their silence is either due to trying to see if it can be implemented or see if the question will die down with the games release. The latter has not happened so I hope they come to their senses and go for option number 1.

Speaking of 5.11 stuff, if they have a deal in place - why are there not more 5.11 stuff in the game? Boots, jackets etc.

I feel as if though that's part of the larger issue, in which developers are alienating gamers who cannot afford online subscriptions, or lack an internet connection. I know that this isn't the target audience, but if creating the avenue for this particular audience to enjoy your game is so simple to implement, why ignore key fundamentals of a tactical, squad based shooter in an effort to cater to the online-only community? There are already Tom Clancy games that have mechanics that are desperately needed in this game:

Splinter Cell Blacklist had three playstyles: Assault, Panther, and Ghost. Each one had their own unique rewards that pertained to that particular playstyle. In Wildlands, the reward system is implemented into the idea of exploring this huge map, because without those rewards, there would be no point in going to half the locations featured.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfare 1 & 2 had support options that were only available in some missions, like a Bradley IFV, or an Apache, etc. Why not expand on this idea? It's almost as if the whole idea of this being a CIA undercover operation is an excuse for the glaring lack of detail in some aspects of gameplay. If you request a Mortar Strike, why not spawn in a rebel mortar team that can deliver multiple strikes until they're killed or run out of rounds? The ingredients are already there: There's the actual mortar that spawns in, theres an animation for when the cartel is manning their own mortar, and there's the option of calling in additional NPCs with the Guns For Hire and Diversion options. It honestly showcases laziness in attention to detail.

Other open world games like Mercenaries, which is pretty old at this point: You call in for a vehicle drop (In which you got the choose from a long list of vehicles that were unlocked through gameplay) and it either drops in by parachute, or if it's a helicopter, it was flown in and the pilot took off running. And these drops would cost money and resources: a mechanic that's already in the game but instead is used for skill unlocks? Why the hell do I need 3000 Gallons of Gasoline to increase my Team Mates Ability to revive me? Or 6000 Units of Medical Supplies to increase my bullets damage to vehicles? I mean, aren't we collecting the resources for the rebels anyway? Wouldn't it increase replay-ability if you had to collecting resources before you used them? Or if eliminating every Sicario at an outpost would mark it as Rebel-Held, and it would drip resources into your inventory until the Cartel took it back over? Both of these suggestions would dramatically increase replay value, and increase the amount of planning you have to do before advancing to the next objective, instead of fast traveling all over the map, marking boxes on a checklist.

I understand that these mechanics are hard to implement from a developer's point of view, but if that's the case, who do they have developing these games? Tactical Shooter Enthusiasts? No. People with a Military Background? No. People who have played these types of games with similar mechanics over the last decade? Clearly, No.

These are the questions I want answered, not by a forum moderator, but a developer. You advertised a product one way, and the final product greatly differed from what was advertised. And some people would say that's to be expected, but looking at Ubisoft's past ability to develop games, and the mechanics available in older Tom Clancy Games, it begs the questions of why these choices were made.

Why is everyone so concerned about clothing customization for the AI? It would add nothing to the game. It won't affect how they act, so why should Ubi use resources to add it? I could possibly see changing their weapon and gear loadout, but clothes, no. This isn't Barbie's dress-up, its a tactical shooter.

These are news to me, since I don't pay attention to anything the AI are wearing. This game is not "fashion week" for me. If product placement was their intent, I consider it an epic marketing fail...

I would rather have them allocate resources to fix all the bugs that plague this game, like getting stuck in rocky terrain, or the binoculars/drone/sync shot suddenly not working, or the suppressor sound bug in co-op, etc...
