Great discussion, guys, on the value of an actual squad in a squad-based tactical shooter. It's great to see that a number of you feel the same way and grew up with games in this awesome genre.

I 100% agree.. as bad as they are sometimes I prefer them to real shooters.. but I gotta say older GR titles had better AI.. so Ubisoft you need to work on the AI a bit more..

The sync shot is OP as hell right now as it is and I feel like that's one thing that needs a major nerf. I don't have to shoot once to clear a camp with that option.

How does a mechanic in a SP or co-op game need a nerf? You say it yourself. It is an option. Impose your own restrictions on using it.

Like don't order AI to fire without you taking a shot at a target as well.

Self impose a longer cool down

Only allow yourself to use it a set number of times per mission or camp.

Not to mention the fact they can shoot through walls, that's OP. I only say this because I've used it and I did my first run through of the game on extreme difficulty with only AI teammates so I could do it in the order I wanted to do things. Guess what, I stopped using my AI to help me after maybe a third of the game because there was no challenge in just telling them to shoot that dude over there because I may miss him if I shot him.

This was my experience, and I know players will not like my opinion because well... I prefer not having crutches that help me do things without doing nothing.
Sounds more like you don't want others to have the option to use this to play the game. You already figured out not to use it to make the game more challenging for you. So, again, why does this need a nerf?

i actually prefer to play with my AI solo.. When I play Online I get stuck with a bunch of rambo wannabe blowing our cover. I cant tell you how many times when I join or someone joins my session that no one will have a mic.. That just annoys the hell out of me.. I found in option you can have Mic only enabled... but they dont want talk or dont want to recon before doing a mission.. I was with this one guy where we were doing recon on a base. I told him lets tag everyone before we start taking them out.... Next thing I know he launching grenades at the base... i mean come on!!!

I certainly have ideas for this.

    1. Have the squadmates update you whenever they're in position. For example, when I issue the "go to" order, I want my team to let me know when they've arrived. Someone can simply say, "We're in position."

    2. Have an option to control rules of engagement. I should be able to put my team on a "fire at will" order or a "fire if spotted" order, regardless if they are moving, regrouping, or holding their position.

    3. I should be able to order them to use suppressors or go loud.

    4. I should be able to order individual squadmates or the entire team if I choose. I may want to individually position each squadmate in different positions.

    5. There should be some sort of "breach and clear" options for buildings and other interior environments.

    6. I should be able to customize the clothing and loadouts (but at least the clothing) of my squadmates. This would further help with immersion.

All these are things I wish Wildlands enabled me and all single-player gamers to do. How awesome would it be to have this level of control and immersion in a beautiful, open-ended open-world game like this?
Pretty much this for me too!

Nice post and pointing at what I see as relatively straightforward to include, and that would have had two major benefits. The first would have been an appeal to more of the old school fans and harder core tactical fans that haven't been able to get past the simplicity and autonomy of the AI team and the second would have been a reduction in the errors that the AI make, because the player is doing the hard thinking.

The game is right up there in my opinion and with the squad AI back in your control as per the original then the game would have ticked every box. We should keep making the case for this as the Devs do listen.

if ubisoft wanted to do a good squad based shooter they wold of done it like Star Wars: Republic Commando that game was and still is the best one when it comes to ai squad members delta squad was the best thing ever in wildlands i dont even remeber the names of my ai members...on top of the fact that some times when they die i dont even bother picking them up since they just teleport to me its meh...the ai in the game ir only good for distracting the enemy while you grab some loot coz you dont feel like fighting the whole base for 1 item or using sshot to clear some enemies that you dont feel like going on the other side of the map for them ! but in Star Wars: Republic Commando it was amazing !
