I have been playing both coop with friends and by myself. I’ma few levels higher than them, and have several more hours in the game. I havemy entire map cleared of blackened fog, I could see all areas (provinces), andhad done stuff each one of them. After joining a friend with less progress inthe game, most my map was clouded over again, but I just figured it was becauseI joined on him. He quit, and I went out the lobby, and started my own singleplayer game under my saved name/level. Now all my progress, missions, skillpoints, everything I worked so hard for on my own, is all GONE ? ? ? We'retalking like a an entire week of gaming by myself, just GONE.
I have a couple of other Ubi games installed that I have not touched since GWR came out. I've never touch the settings in Uplay, and "Enable Cloud Save Synchronization for supported games" has always be on. This would lead one to think that Ubi was backing up your progress on their server?
1st Agent (Live Chat):
Agent could not tell me location of Step 2 (delete savedfolder), and told me to skip it. He said this “should” work…Uhg. I looked high, and low and could find no such "save folder".
1. Disable Cloud Sync in Uplay
2. Delete save folder (C:\Program Files(x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\locales)
3. Start game and create new character.
4. Do some stuff, get auto saved and quit the game
5. Enable sync in Uplay again
6. Start the game, It will prompt you with a choice betweenthe local savegame and the cloud save game from the sync.
7. Choose local savegame.
8. You can now continue playing without having to create anew char again
Agent (1)told me to check back after trying steps above, but when I did, he had close my case that was less than an hour old.
2nd Agent (Live Chat):
First thing Agent did was try to blame this on me, and said I must have shut my game down improperly before it auto saved, Whatttt, NOT!
It took this guy quite awhile to come up with the location of save game folder, which did NOT exist anywhere in my "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft GameLauncher\locales"
So basically I used up my XP boost time troubleshooting this, and was then told nothing could be done, and I would have to start over? ? ?
At some point this will happen to others, and whether you have two hours or two months almost all of your progress will be lost.
To me it looks like my map is in the same state of progress that my friend's is, and his progress was just imaged onto my Character.
Apparently these Agents don't know what they are talking about, because even after I created a new character as requested, I still don't have any type of saved game folder at C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\, or any sub folders here.
Replied to another lad on another thread. This is what I done to get my save back:
Hi mate. I had the same today when I got in from work. Game was in Russian (wtf?) and my character was reset to the beginning.
I went here C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\<your ID>\1771 and you should have 3 save files. One of these (probably the 2nd one should hopefully have yesterdays date on it).
Anyways I renamed save 2 to save 1 as that seemed to be the biggest one and had the previous days date on it. Not sure if this helped but anyways.
I then went into the main menu and the 2nd option down allows you to select which save you want to play. Hopefully your level X character is selectable.
If not, maybe download an undeleter and see if you can find the old files in that directory to restore?
