Thank you UBI! (Seriously)
My first post here. After washing my mouth out with a cold one yesterday from reading all this salt, I want to sincerely thank UBI for this game. Thank you for not making a button-mashing, twitchy, I-need-three-Redbull's-before I play game (for the most part haha). Thank you for making the game more realistic than most typical fighting games. I love tactics and strategy, I love that stamina depletes and spammers are punished if the person knows what their doing. I love that I can main as a Conq and fights can last several minutes between two good foes. People complain that this game promotes turtling and counter-attacking/parrying. Seriously, THANK YOU. For all you salty whiners that this game is too slow or that it's not fun having build up of anticipation of what someone is going to do, instead of your preferred method of hey let's rush in and start hacking away until someone dies...I just see that as trash and utterly unplayable. I love that for most tit's (
) there is a tat. I love it because as someone who is fascinated with melee combat historically and how it would be if it were with real fighters, it's exactly what it should be, while also keeping it fun and arcadey. In hand to hand combat no one rushes in and just hacks away. You feel the person out, get a sense of who they are. If they attack and I am good enough, I should be able to counter and punish them. By me attacking, I open myself up for the same. THAT'S WHAT MAKES THIS GAME SO FUN!
If it's too slow for you go back to COD or any other crappy twitchy game that takes no brains but all muscle-memory. I'll take this game where it's an intense showdown. As a conq, he fits my playstyle perfectly, but I get he isn't for everyone. But I also feel the most satisfied thinking and finding out how to exploit the weaknesses in every playstyle. I smile when I play people who kill it as good offensive characters, especially ones who can feint the crap out of me. That stuff takes serious skill. I am no good at it, hence why the conq is such a nice fit.
So if you're reading this UBI, don't listen to all this saltiness. Yes we all know there are real issues that need to be fixed, and it's been well documented, as well as characters that need tweaks. Overall though? I cannot be happier that finally a game did melee combat where it's not just button mashing, and different playstyles are rewarded.
