99% GPU use in Windows Explorer 60% in game?
I am really annoyed to have ONE game by ubisoft and get 99% GPU use and ever increasing GPU temps when toggled out to the freakin DESKTOP (aka WIndows Explorer) but only 45-86% GPU usage on a GTX 980 in GAME. (also same on diff machine w/ GTX970 & diff OS version)
None of my many other games cause this and it occurs reliably.
Every time I launch Ghost Recon Wildlands & then Alt tab out:
WHAM! (like with a creepy George Michael in lipstick)it hits 99-100% GPU use & starts ramping up the fans & temps.
So GRW is the cause even if indirectly. Please do not waste valuable time disputing that GRW is the cause. All other possible causes have been eliminated & it has never occurred except when running GRW/GRW open Beta. It's a cause-effect relationship to GRW.
More importantly do not waste time talking about CPU use, I never reach over 87% on either rig in game. Furthermore it would be irrelevant since it's the FREAKING WINDOWS EXPLORER! Not some 3d DirectX app which is somehow lacking the hardware power to run it. Even a dualcore from 12 YEARS ago could run Windows 7,8 & 10 Windows Explorer without jack for GPU/CPU usage so there is no excuse for it now on 2 diff i7 rigs with a GTX970 and a GTX980
Please understand that I mean WINDOWS EXPLORER as in the effing Desktop-Screen, not "Windows Internet Explorer" which only a fool would use. So: 2 machines, 2 OS 2, diff CPU, 2 Diff vidcards and yet SAME RESULT: GRW running = 100% GPU use when on on the desktop screen, I am sorry to be too redundant or too expressive here, but this is completely ridiculous and this problem could result in class action suit from killed GPUs around the world if not corrected quickly.
Please help correct this issue and inform me if you are aware of it and working on it already. Thank-you in advance for your time and patience in solving this problem.
I have a gtx 760, and run the game with no problem, i too see the problem when exiting or alt tap.
Same is happening for me on a gtx 970, also pleae ubisoft, fix the stutter
This was happening for me as well. The second I launched the game my gpu would spike up to 98-100 and cpu up to 60-80. I read somewhere that there is an issue with the Steam overlay in the game and to turn it off. Also, an issue with the UPlay overlay. I disabled both of them and BAM it's working fine.
Steam > Settings> Uncheck 'Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.
Uplay > Settings > Uncheck 'Enable in-game overlay for supported games.
This worked for me so hopefully it helps you out!
I didn't buy the game through Steam so Steam wasn't even running but I have had the overlay disabled in both Uplay and Steam since the Open Beta and yet the issue persisted.
So in this case the overlays were not the culprit. But thank-you for your suggestion, at least someone around here cares about this game so I do appreciate the response.
For anyone wishing to check and see if it's trying to melt your video-card too, just use MSI afterburner to see your GPU use frame-rates, temps, etc in game as well as out of games or EVGA Precision Tune (although I think it's the worse monitoring/custom fan-curve software because it doesn't have the nice graphs of everything monitored for the last few minutes.)
Many report majorly excessive HDD access as well and I see that too but my drive speeds and fans make it a non-issue for performance or heat. So for the moment I'm more concerned with it acting like a GPU Burn-In Test every time I Alt-Tab to desktop-screen.
On a positive note the new game ready NVidia Driver (v378.78) dropped my maximum CPU usage in game from around 60% to always under 46% on one rig and under 41% on the other.
99% GPU usage when in Ghost War PVP Uplay lobby & when setting up match ???
This does not happen with any other games.
Even if I alt tab back to the desktop, it's still sitting a 99%
What are you doing Ubisoft ??? fix this please.

Hi there! Sorry to hear you are experiencing super high GPU usage with Wildlands. I recommend trying these PC steps to see if it lowers your GPU usage. Are your temperatures high? I would recommend making sure you have the proper ventilation for the amount of power put into that build. I also recommend turning down your graphical settings to see if that fluctuates it at all. If that doesn't help, would you mind submitting a support ticket with a small description of the issue and what you have already tried? Please also attach a Dxdiag and MSINFO— these files will help us locate what could be causing the issue. You can find instructions on how to create and submit these files on our support site here. Thanks!
