I get the inclusion of SAM sites but is anyone else REALLY annoyed by their detection? According to the hints on the loading screens you should fly low to avoid detection... oh, really now? How low exactly? Because the detection meter STILL fills up when I've had my helicopter down so low that the helicopter is literally scraping the ground so, by my estimates, that means that ANY vehicle that isn't a car is subject to being detected by SAM sites regardless of how high or low you fly. Actually, the HIGHER you fly the less likely you are to be targeted. And that's a ridiculous mechanic to have.
I don't mind having to dodge the missiles (that part is simple enough) but it's made near impossible to dodge when you've got to land a supply raid vehicle- especially a helicopter. Only way it's possible to dodge a missile is with a decent amount of speed so when you're being targeted regardless of height it makes some landing areas pretty much impossible to reach because, brilliantly, they decide to have SAM sites dotted around the surrounding area.
The lower you fly, the slower you get locked. I also didn't manage to completly avoid being locked. But honestly I would say: It's not a bug, it's a feature.
Nevertheless maybe the tooltip should be more specific.
A tipp for your landing problem (just on koop unfortunately): fly in with full speed just high enough to make a helo possible. Get your teammates out with the parachute and land savely maybe on an overwatch position. Doing this at night would raise your chance of success by maybe 200%
I've had THREE issues with the SAM sites.
1.) There is an area of the map where you have to land planes for side missions and it's on a lower elevation than the surrounding terrain. There are THREE SAME SITES around there making it super difficult to line up a good plane landing without having to worry about getting shot down. Why is this a thing?
2.) I get locked and shot at before the meter even fills. It can vary between 50-75% detection and suddenly it counts as a lock and I get shot at. This shouldn't happen.
3.) If you put in the tips to fly low to avoid detection, you should indeed AVOID DETECTION. Not make it slower detection. I don't get detected the HIGHER I fly. This shouldn't be a tip if it isn't worded properly and is very misleading.

BTW it's not hard to dodge missle at least when flying little chopper (even withot doin' a barrel roll)). And big chopper can survive couple of missle impacts as I remember. But when flying on plane missles were extremely deadly for me. But maybe we can clear the way (destroy nearby SAM sites) before hijacking the plane ?
dodging those SAM on a plane really annoys me as the controls from plane is not straightforward as the choppers. I hope we can ride a F-16 or F-15 (fighter jets) or alike.Originally Posted by C0ntract0r_47 Go to original post

1) Someone pointed out that in a chopper, you can switch to the other seat when a missile is incoming, to lose the lock, before switching back.
2) Planes are very difficult to dodge missiles with.
3) Why the hell are there so many SAM turrets surrounding flying missions, like stealing the plane or helicopter.
4) Once they are destroyed, they should stay destroyed / shut off, they should remain despawned for a good period of time - ie. a full in-game day or two.
