It took me a few tries with the roach and came in 8th on the leaderboard. I down voted it because it was just a stretch of road and that's it. Of the other 27 people, only 1 other person down voted it. Then I decided to look at replays to see how and which bike they used to compare my run with. EVERY SINGLE replay I watched was people using the foxbat, slowly flipping it backwards on it's rear fender, and then using the back wheel to drag them upside-down to the finish line. Why did almost everyone who finished it upvote it?
This may come as a surprise, but the majority of gamers are either very young...or aren't too smart. I'm just above the bar line. The same people would play impossible stairs while laughing uncontrollably. The same people that think Kayne West is a musical genius.
Gaming in general I would say is a bit pointless...but making trials tracks and videos about trials has deep meaning

I also think the thumbs up/down could be improved on a little bit and expanded on.

I would love to be able to see/give feedback on tracks. I don't mind people disliking what I build, I just want to know what they didn't like so I can build better tracks in the future. Just have a box asking "would you like to leave feedback for the track creator?" after finishing a track, so it's not an obligation. This subtle social network inclusion would make a big impact on the next trials game, imo.

Of course there would have to be some kind of filter so people can't just say "your track f*cking sucked" etc... but with the ability to flag/report comments I doubt it would be much of a problem.

Yeah the option to leave a comment to the builder would be a great inclusion JKT. I don't mind people disliking my tracks at all, we all like different things, but it would be great to know what they disliked (in a constructive way) so that i can improve on future builds.

Its easy to send a message leaving feedback to the builder if your both on the same platform but there's no way to send a message cross-platform to a "fusion shared" builder.

Feedback direct to the creator isn't a bad option. Perhaps a voice message. This would become entertaining. I'm sure plenty of skilled riders and builders would not be brunt of whom you would hear.
If you have categories a track is rated in...decor, line, replay value/fun factor....you would be able to see exactly where the issue was with the track. Most times it's clear though if you watch replays. You can see difficulty spikes in the build. However, sometimes a dull line isn't always noticeable to the builder.

A good thing for Redlynx to do in their weekly stream would be a positivity critique of 3 tracks. Tracks that they enjoyed, but couldn't pick for various reasons. Broad advice is good, but hearing specific things about builds is more helpful.

I agree that the thumbs up/down system makes it too easy to hit RT at the end of the track just as a nice gesture rather than as an actual opinion of the track. A star system like evo doesn't do much better if people just get in the habit of hitting 5 stars for the same reason. I like Vegas' idea of rating categories because it actually asks people a clear question. I think when people are given a simple "positive or negative" choice they'll go positive unless they really hate it, but if they are asked about specific things like the driving line or deco, they have a better chance to give a real evaluation, and since it takes more than one button press, they aren't as likely to just fly past it out of muscle memory.

Another thing I think would be interesting is to tie the favorites into the rating somehow. Giving a thumbs up on a track is essentially meaningless because you may never see that track again, but if you favorite a track you're actually saying "I want to be able to find this again later" and you won't clog up your favorites with tracks you didn't actually enjoy, so it's a more meaningful metric.

As far as getting feedback as a builder, I think that's something that Trials does really well just by letting you watch replays. I think watching replays from as many skilled and unskilled players as you can gives you a better idea of what works and what doesn't in a track than almost anything else. Of course, I'm also happy to receive critique, as long as people don't use it just to be jerks.
