Not arguing against that. Maybe I see the gap between controllers and mouse/keyboard a bit smaller than you, but I agree m&k is usually an advantage on shooters.
How much of an advantage may also vary, depending on the type of shooter (purely aim-based, tactical, movement-based,...)
In my experience usually a good gamepad player will likely beat an average m&k player, but at the top level skill can`t make up for the input difference anymore.
I don`t see that as relevant for cross-play though. It really just needs proper filtering options for matchmaking and leaderboards.
That way a competitive console player who doesn`t want to play on uneven ground can stick to his platform, yet friends can play together if they want to.
I for one play on PC with controller, so there is no real reason why I shouldn`t PvP with a friend on console.
(hypothetically, in reality I don`t PvP anymore lol)
