I used to be a big Xbox player until 4 years ago I started playing PC and preferred it more. Only one problem all my friends I know in person still play Xbox. I wish Ubisoft would have made Ghost Recon Wild lands cross platform with xbox. It is a really good game and I enjoy it a lot but I am slowly starting to lose interest because i'm playing alone. Where if it was cross platform it would spice it up a bit because I would be able to play with all my friends. Ghost recon wild lands in my opinion would make a great cross platform game because its not Player vs Player its all about teamwork your group vs AI. What do you guys think?
They are making PVP for it though and PVP is the only way to add longevity with minimum coding investment. Which means they can't have it cross platform. All of my friends play the PS4 version so if it was cross platform I'd want it with PS4. In the end I think they realized trying to cross to one of the other platforms would just cause more problems than it's worth. Plus this way they get all of the double sales of people who buy a copy so they can play with their friends and play on the superior gaming system that is the PC.Originally Posted by Tuxpower69 Go to original post
You got a point for the PvP and their sales but you would think they would be able to do something like for PvP where what ever platform your playing on is the platform you will play against and then when you want to play the co-op part make it cross platform for all systems??Originally Posted by Ruar35 Go to original post
PC <-> Xbox cross-platform has happened in the past.
Unfortunately I think it really comes down to Microsoft and Sony allowing this particular feature in games. I'm sure game devs would love to implement it. In fact, I'm sure they would love it. But it's not up to them, it's all up to Microsoft and Sony, since they control the networks that the game devs would need to access in order to allow cross-platform play.
Well, Microsoft is pushing "play anywhere", so I don`t really see them not allowing it. They try to have it for all their exclusives, and I think a few third party titles support it as well.
Aside from crossplay it also includes crossbuy (buy once, play on both console and PC). Imo that`s great for customers, but I guess it can scare publishers because they think they might lose money.
As for PvP as argument against crossplay, if told by a publisher I`d take it as cheap excuse. Even Quake3 on Dreamcast allowed crossplay with PC, almost 20 years ago. It worked just fine, was fun, and many matches didn`t play out the way you may think they would.
All you need is filters so players can decide if they want to mix platforms or not.
Don't agree with your PVP assessment of cross-play on shooters. Not specifically the cross-play part, but the whole Mouse + Keyboard VS Controller part of it. The platforms themselves aren't the imbalance IMO, it's the input methods.
I'd played PC shooters competitively in which players were allowed to choose between mouse/keyboard and controller (Xbox controllers connected to PCs). I know for a fact that all players involved were very good in their respective communities (people that opted for controller were typically console gamers so it was their most familiar input device). The mouse and keyboard players won decisively. Yes, there were wins for the controller players, but the scales weighed HEAVILY towards mouse and keyboard.
This is for shooters mind you. Other genres of games definitely favor the controller joysticks.
Play Anywhere is definitely an awesome title, and I'd love to see it implemented in Wildlands for cooperative play at the least... If it's possible at all. Honestly, I'd love it in all games that involve cooperative play.
Not arguing against that. Maybe I see the gap between controllers and mouse/keyboard a bit smaller than you, but I agree m&k is usually an advantage on shooters.
How much of an advantage may also vary, depending on the type of shooter (purely aim-based, tactical, movement-based,...)
In my experience usually a good gamepad player will likely beat an average m&k player, but at the top level skill can`t make up for the input difference anymore.
I don`t see that as relevant for cross-play though. It really just needs proper filtering options for matchmaking and leaderboards.
That way a competitive console player who doesn`t want to play on uneven ground can stick to his platform, yet friends can play together if they want to.
I for one play on PC with controller, so there is no real reason why I shouldn`t PvP with a friend on console.
(hypothetically, in reality I don`t PvP anymore lol)
Currently, microsoft can only do it to exclusive games. If they did it with GRWL how pissed do you think the PSN comunity would be? Like system exclusive content is one thing but only 2 systems being able to play together while one sits alone would cause an outrage (especially in this day and age with everyone being over sensitive about little details). So like we said above, until Sony officially accepts Mircosofts offer, it's better for devs to keep games the are on all systems separate.Originally Posted by distrust74 Go to original post
So c'mon Ubisoft... microsoft is literally opening the gates for cross platform gaming. Get with the program and give us cross-play for Ghost Recon Wildlands please. If Sony don't want to be onboard, fine, let em be until they feel ready... if ever. We still have PC and xbox, and am sure every single Ghost Recon Wildlands players on both these platforms are going to welcome this feature. So, c'mon UBISOFT, give us the options at least.
