I get really pissed off in this game at times because it has so much potential and then falls on its face.

I'll be having a good duel with someone only to have the game rollback to just before I parried, thus making me miss and die. Or I'll fight berserkers that spam dodge but are laggy, so they teleport and become uncounterable. Those players then make it worse by saying good fight or whatever, completely ignorant to the fact they're only beating people because of their **** connection.

Then there's stuff like longbow+kunai in elim, or catapult literally anywhere. You're all ready for this fight with someone you expect to be good and then SIGH, cheesed.

And that's only made worse by already being at the end of my fuse sometimes because, between matchmaking fails and game crashes, I won't have finished a game in the last hour or so.

Esther MacCallum-Stewart has laid the groundwork for you with his article on "Online Games, Player Behavior" (Feb 2015). In Uni, if you decide to major/double major, Psychology and Sociology will help give you concrete understanding. Additionally, Maslow's "Hierarchy of Needs"(1943) and Kohlberg's "Stages of Moral Development"(1958) will also shed some light on the entrance towards the answers you seek. Lots of reading!

Maybe it's just been my experience, but this game seems to take that to another level. Literally the first match of the first game I played after I installed and launched the full version (I've been spending in this game since the closed alpha last year and so wanted to get my duel on) consisted of someone who was already reputation 1 throwing me off a ledge and spamming emotes and the 'wow!' 'good fight!' in chat. You can extrapolate from there and I'm sure you all have several stories of your own.

Human behavior is something that interests me, and I'm wondering why this game seems to strike such a personal chord with people. This game hasn't even been out a month and people are absolutely beside themselves with rage already.

A lot of the concepts in this game are pretty new, and part of my thinking is that there is something a bit more visceral about watching yourself be eviscerated during an execution than being shown a chaotic killcam that lasts maybe three seconds and then you're right back in the action. Fighting games like this also seem to bring out all these talks of skill and l2p trolls. Everything seems more personal... after all, your very sense of honor is at stake here!

Thoughts/comments/fun rage stories of your own?
    Wait... wait...

You are used to I assume... "Hardcore" basement dwelling gamers like the reddit guys and unwashed neckbeards and CS kiddies... But you get triggered by someone saying "Wow!' "Good Fight!" ??? xD

This game has a menu instead of free chat PURELY for that purpose. What more do you want? He can't suggest intimate dates with your mother or question your sexuality, he can say "Wow!" "Good Fight!" in that order and maybe a few more permutations of it... You can't handle that?

Pushing someone off a cliff is just part of the game, big deal.

The only thing that genuinely makes me rage is the bad connection and not having the option to duel on a map with no hazards.

The P2P connection issue should be self explanatory. The fact that I lose to someone teleporting around and hitting me with no marker is absolutely ridiculous, and when the enemy taunts and acts like he's the better fighter, that can ruffle anyone's feathers.

The hazards... while I understand it's part of the gameplay and that you should always position yourself around, the fact that they're just everywhere can make for unbalanced matches. I would be fighting a player, punishing their mistakes 4 or 5 times in a row and the fight goes smoothly on my end, but they still have a quarter of their life left. However if I make just ONE mistake, I can get pushed into a geyser and get pinballed by that and their heavies with no way for me to break off whatsoever and there goes almost all of my life. Just after one move from the enemy... I just want to fight in a regular map and let our fighting skills speak for ourselves.

Other than that, I like the game. Sad to see it die when it's not even a month old.
