So, here we are. a few days after launch and I have completely destroyed the cartel (109% destabilization) maxed out every skill, level 30, got every gun and accessory. I still have some achievements and kingslayer files to get. Now keep in mind I played the tech test, open beta and of course the final game. I also completed the game on extreme difficulty, for the most part solo with AI teammates. I know this may fall on deaf ears but here we go. Also note I played on the Xbox One console.
First off, let us start with the "Needs improvement" section. Bear in mind these are just my personal opinions.
AI
The teammate AI, as I pointed out in previous feedback posts during the beta/tech test, is complete garbage. It is not their inability to kill an enemy that bothers me so, it is the fact that no one seemed to think to program them with a shred of human intelligence. They stand Idly by while you get shot or are 100m away from you while you are being engaged because you didn't tell them exactly what to do and when to do it. Now I can understand them having a certain level of "passiveness" while you are in stealth or undetected but when you are engaged they seem to just fall off the radar way to often to be of real use. The same can be said about the Rebel AI. Too many times did I see Rebels driving through cartel outposts or even parked in front of enemies, hell I have even seen rebels standing next to cartel and Unidad forces without firing a shot before while I was being engaged right next to them. On that same token I have seen Rebel AI drive into a area where I was stealthing around and stir up the enemy forces and blow my cover, which is equally annoying. The issue, to me, is the extreme inconsistency with the AI across the board.
Driving
The driving mechanics I have gotten used to so I can handle land vehicles fairly well, my concern is the unrealistic physics on vehicles (IE you crash full speed into a rock on a bike and just bounce off it while you hit a small bump and go flying off). The flying controls are not the best, the fixed wing controls are fairly stable but the helicopter controls are a bit annoying. There are times when I am trying to land in a relative tight spot with a chopper and I suddenly bounce off something and go flying in a direction, usually resulting in a crash. Now this did not happen enough to warrant calling it "broken" and when you have a big open area to fly in there usually are not any issues but I saw a lot of friction when the chopper was landing or trying to gain momentum in any single direction.
Vehicle Deployment skill (Helicopters)
I also noticed that when you utilize the Rebel vehicle deployment skill there are vast inconsistencies with where the game decides is a proper place to deploy a helicopter. Many a time I called for a chopper and it was deployed on a hill, falling away from me. Deployed next to a tree or other object which meant I was unable to take off as the blades would be destroyed as the vehicle warmed up. I saw alot less issues in the lower tier vehicle deployment (Basic car and armored truck) then I did with the helicopter so I believe this is something that needs to be looked at, while it isn't game breaking it is quite annoying sometimes because you need to wait for the cooldown even if you are standing on a fairly flat surface when you initially deployed it. I would also like to see the ability to select what vehicle you want deployed instead of always being forced to deploy a helicopter.
Overall Bugs
A few bugs in this game are quite irritating. The Drone bug (The one that disables you from being able to deploy drones/binoculars) that seems to happen fairly frequently when you are flying in a chopper a lot is quite annoying and has resulted in me having to wipe to attempt to fix it or restarting my game. There is no bigger ball buster then getting into position to EMP drone a convoy and then releasing the game decided to disable your ability to deploy a drone. The SAM audio bug is quite tedious as well. When you avoid multiple SAM rockets sometimes the game will think you need a constant reminder you were targeted, resulting in a constant beeping that can only be fixed by restart the game entirely. While this is not a bug, hearing the AI talk while you are in a co-op session is really annoying and I would love to be able to turn off "Ai chatter" or something like that. The jokes were funny the first time or two but after a few hundred times of hearing them repeat the same dialogue bother when entering an area and during transportation I wanted to stab a screw driver into my ears.
Story/character
Even completing the DEA missions and getting more intel on the embassy bombing and such I really felt like there was little to no effort put into this story. The endings to the game really should have been switched around in my opinion, the secret ending is something I actually anticipated when I beat el sueno the first time but the original ending actually took me by surprise and I felt like that should have been the alternate ending. The characters in the game were pretty, underwhelming. I never felt very attached to anyone or really wanted to kill someone at any point. Bowman was actually the only character in the game that had any substance, your AI teammates were very bland and non engaging as well as the Rebel leadership.
Missing Content/Marketplace Bugs
I am one of the sad individuals who is effected by the gold edition issue as well as purchasing credits for the store on launch day and still have not received my $20 worth of credits. I have already submitted tickets and such but my biggest issue is that we are in the year 2017 and while I can understand some issues with the game itself you should not be having issues actually delivering the product to your consumers. I scour the forums and see this issue plaguing a lot of people and it honestly frustrates me because I paid $100 for the game plus $20 for credits and I have not gotten about $40 worth of content from my purchase. This is a huge issue for me personally because I just find it hard to imagine we are this developed in the gaming industry and long time AAA developers don't seem to get how to get their product across to the customers without issues. This is a sure fire way to lose customers and really discourage people from buying special editions or investing in microtransactions in the future. I have been assured "This is being worked on" but now that I have completed the game, what is the point?
Now some good stuff!
Instead of a list I will just throw out some words about what I did enjoy about the game. Overall I am having fun playing it, even after beating the crap out of it. My plan is to just join co-op games and help out people with their missions and friends get through the game as well. I really enjoy the drop in/out co-op system and the seamless joining and such was a breath of fresh air compared to For Honor's launch. I had a fun time with the vast map, changing biomes, and the collectables, while subtle and not very interesting, did make me invest some time into getting them but the progression of getting new weapons and accessories and such was quite engaging on its own. I did enjoy the gun play, it felt tight and each weapon played a bit different which was a good aspect until I landed on what I think the "best" weapons are in the game. I still haven't used a lot of the weapons yet but I am looking forward to trying them out as I continue to play multiplayer. I am excited to see how this game expands, and I am looking forward to the PvP as well but I am sure it will be like walking on glass when it launches. I would really like to see the "story" continue, and once you watch the alternate ending you may see what I mean. Being able to continue to dismantle forces like this would bring more excitement into the game because being able to pick apart the cartel price by piece was a motivator for me. I know I decided to really break the cartels back by beating every underboss before I moved on the El Sueno and it was quite satisfying to see all those red marks on the cartel overview. I thought I was fairly spot on when I said "This game didn't live up to the advertised expectations, but it was an enjoyable co-op shooter" and will probably continue to tell people that if asked for my opinion. I still think the game needs tweaks and fixes, expansions which will come, but I am really hoping we get some more "Endgame" PvE content, something for when you beat the story to keep you a bit more engaged rather than just helping other ghosts complete their games but I feel like the future DLC will bring some of that and Wildlands may get a touch of the "Division" later down the road. So, like anyone really cares but if you are a "ratings" person I believe I would finally land on my original grade of a 6.5-7/10. Once we see some fixes and get some more content I do believe the game could easily ramp up to a 8.
