(Fix coming thank you) Controller sensitivity and deadzone (tempfix)

    To Dev Team

For about three hours I have been testing a controller issue with the game. If you use a PS4 controller and from my research any controller for the pc version of the game the right stick deadzone settings are game breaking even with ingame right stick sensitivity set to the max of 20. I found this information on various reddit posts and decided to try it out myself to which i found there was a major issue. When playing if i block a attack from someone 50% of the time I dont do it in time. Here are the numbers I got through some software called DS4 tool, response time with my current deadzone settings is 2.9ms but without it the response time is about 10-12+ms. Also for those in the know, DS4 tool will not fix the deadzone issue only steams controller setup will.

Below you will find images showing the default dead zones and my fixed setup, you will also find somebody elses youtube video showing the issue. Some things to note the down side of fix is that the camera sensitivity has to be reduced from 5 to 3 and the game will use xbox layout buttons instead. Also if you bought the game on uplay like me everytime you launch steam you will have to add it to your library and launch it from your steam library for the controller functions to work. Ive also set the in game right stick sensitivity back to its default value and you will feel a minor difference in movement using the steam controller ps4 template, mine is edited to remove any fucntions on the touchpad. Warning if you do this make sure you set your deadzone around 0.50 setting it all the way to 0 causes issues like the camera spinning itself.

Image 2 is the default deadzone of the controller, you have to move the right stick into the blue section for it to register which means pushing it all the way to the edge.

Image 3 shows the default value of the deadzone setting at this point i have navigated to additional settings.

Image 4 shows my personal setting which responds far better

Some final notes please be mature and keep the pc master race stuff out of this thread, yes using a mouse you will not have this problem. I have seen a major improvement in my blocking in game so far im blocking way more attacks then I was before, fixing this problem has been a major help. At prestige 9 in high end fights I was getting owned from attacks I was certain that I blocked or parryed, I can say Im doing far better in fights and even better when trying too block gank attacks. Ive had to play around with the deadzone settings If you find a better setup please let me know and lets hope the dev team address this issue. In a game where mili-seconds mean the difference between blocking or missing a block this is a major issue.

You can but it doesnt work i tested it quite a lot would be nice if it did since it's far easier to setup but if you wanna try go to the controllers tab make sure the controller is connected then click on edit or go to the profiles tab, select your main profile or make one for the game then click edit be sure to select it in the controllers tab after and save your edited settings, In the image below i have the readings tab selected which is not needed. See to the right panel where it says 'RS' you can see I have it set to negative 0.60 and even the sensitivity set a 1.50 i noticed no difference let me know how you go if you try it.

Forget to mention make sure you dont run DS4 tool and the steam controller setup at the same time otherwise nothing will work.

    Thanks for the support

I've been saying we need dead zone options almost since launch.

DS4 tool is program thats needed to play with a ps4 controller on pc in most cases but thankfully lately developers have add PS4 controller function to their pc games now, so its not always needed. If your playing on console then take comfort in the fact that all console players will have the same settings, unless there is a controller out there that has no deadzone function on ps4, I have ps4 also but for exclusives only.

Thank you for your post, very useful !

Now I have some questions :

1 Ds4tool is outdated if i'm right and some people says that inputmapper is better. Is it correct ?

2 I would like to use the steam wizard for my ds4 but when i copy the gamepad configuration (from official for honor steam controller) I get some issue with directions (char moves himself when my controller is down). So is there an official configuration on steam for Ds4 users ?

3 Can your share your whole personnal settings (gamepad with camera controls by Ark-07) with us please ?

Yes you can get several controllers where you can customize the deadzone.

But this may be one reason for people having issues with quick light attacks on ps4.

The Raiju has a much better deadzone if you set it up and even the standard one is better.

If the game has a deadzone I don't know if the custom controllers can change that.

Yeah, I have been playing with a BRAND NEW xbox one controller (the one with 3.5mm jack and bluetooth). I bought a nice bluetooth adapter, and just completed a run through of hyperlight on hardmode, and put in a solid play session of titan souls. Both games are definitely timing/precision. Controls felt very fluid and AMAZING.

Hop onto for honor, and it feels like I am drunk. Have my inputs dont go through, and if ANY OTHER application is open I get MASSIVE fps drops (so if steam is open along side uplay, i get legit -40 fps spikes for ever input). Had to turn off the vibrate option to even swing my sword without the game borderline crashing.

    This is absolutely uplay specific.

Switching to wired mode ONLY eliminates the vibration setting effecting performance. Really sad, since I bought a controller to play this game, and I have had nothing but issues. Mouse and keyboard just feel very awkward for me on this game. I havent bought a game on uplay since rayman legends, and this definitely makes me question supporting ubisoft again, as this issue seems to be common and is completely unrecognized by their end.
