16 Hours in - all of it Solo. Thought I would give my feedback on the Solo aspect. Now, I know this game was made to be played in Co-Op but if they advertise a Solo Game Mode, I feel this had far more potential than what they implemented and there ought to be a focus on the solo aspect as well, esp as some items from previous games really ought to have made a return.
If you are wondering "will this not conflict with seamless Co-Op"; the answer is no. The Hosts settings will simply be the ones used.
The AI Teammates:
I have yet to dare play on higher difficulties. The AI Companions are the reason. Aside from Sync Shot, shooting out of vehicles and reviving, they are pretty much useless.
I want to be able to control their behavior more closely. The ultimate system would be tied to their weapons - Snipers hang back and focus on other snipers, MG Gunners, mortars etc. Machinegunners do the same + supress enemies allowing you freedom of movement. Assault (Shotguns, Assault Rifles, SMGs) follow you in close and cover your six. Grenadiers (Assault Rifles with GL) will focus on Vehicles and groups / entranced enemies. Of course if you have silencers equipped, so will they.
The key to this is AI Customization meaning I can equip my team to fit the bill. Aside from this, we should be able to give different orders to different Ghosts and put them in a specific position.
The Rebels
It is okey to steal good ideas and if there is one thing from Far Cry that begs to be implemented in this game, it is the Outpost system - the ability to clear outposts and replace the enemies with Rebel Forces. This would also allow more spawn points and let the player see the impact in the world as well as let the AI Rebels have powerful tools such as SAMs and Mortars - things they need if they are going to take on Unidad. And if you want to do it all over again, just press the button in the main menu and all captured SB / Unidad bases are returned to their former owners.
Enemy Behavior
Stealth is broken. Enemy AI Is broken. There have been tons of threads on this topic but as a solo player it is infuriating since I do not have reliable backup. I can be as hidden as I like but in the end it always turn into a cluster**** because they know exactly where I am and moving fast - a necessity - means my AI Companions cannot keep up. I want them to be more cautious if they have taken casulties, I want them to take more time in determining where I am (and staying out of sight while they do that). This "we are more than them" and instant respawn of a ****ton of enemies is very annoying. At least let the enemy reinforcements travel from the nearest enemy outposts - again tying into the the above system and meaning enemy reinforcements can be intercepted en route by friendlies.
Campaign Progression and Story Content:
Despite the fact that I just took out Carl Bookheart and his training camps, this have no effect on the overall difficulty of the Santa Blanca. Despite the Unidad General defecting to my side, this have no effect on the Unidad. Despite El Sueno openly stating he have recruitment problems, there are not fewer SB in the world. If you destabilize Security, you should see less SB in the world. If you capture the Unidad General they should be more agressive towards SB, maybe even using the outpost system mentioned above to trigger a war between them. This would also be more in line with the E3 trailer - you can use the chaos of the resumed hostilities between SB and Unidad to your advantage. The same with influence. If you take down their influence; you should see the Rebels having a bigger impact, getting bigger bonuses from Rebel Operations and the like. Take down smuggling and you hit their Income meaning SAM launchers, Jammers etc are replaced less frequently as they become more expensive to buy.
Oh, and of course we should be able to leave weapon slots empty if we so choose. If we carry just one long weapon, we should also get 100% bonus stamina.
