Proposed Nobushi Changes
It's no secret Nobushi is failing miserably at higher tiers of play, not as bad as Kensei, but close to it, and worse in some areas.
Whats wrong with her most mid/low tier plays will ask, she is OP OP OP. Well I'm glad you asked!
I'm not sure if console has the same issues as PC, maybe, maybe not. She may or may not need seperate balance patches for console/pc
ON PC
Her lights- EASILY parried and punished, youtube will be your source for higher skill fights that most of us diehard nobushi commonly deal with. They are just too slow and predictable. Most experienced players have her timings down on lights and will casually parry them for free damage. Thats if you aren't too lazy to sidestep it or block.
Proposal- Speed them up to valks level or very close to. She needs to be able to keep opponents at range, and look for openings on turtles and to set up combos. The current state off parry and punish for her lights is crippling her as much as the other problems.
Hidden stance- Its wonky at best and unreliable, with how fast opponents typically attack and close in and follow up, you barely have much use for it other then getting smacked right out of any potential follow up. Severly lacking for whats supposed to be a core move on her.
Proposal- Change it to an instant all guard that dodges attacks and consumes 20-25% Stamina per dodge. GB's should apply to this the way it does to other all guards. This should be a core move for Nobushi and her way of defending and counter attacking to setup combo strings. Keep her guard change the way it is (Slower then other heros if you didn't know, like lb/raider) So Nobushi has a choice of using stamina and sacrificing offense, or risking a block/parry attempt with her slower guard changes. Allow Kick only out of it, lights won't be needed if they are sped up.
Kick- Her kick is severly lacking, between a very high stamina cost and how easy it is to dodge, its a risky manuever that everyone see's coming a mile away and avoids. For something thats supposed to be a core move and her way of combo'ing it fails on multiple levels, another unacceptable part of her kit that leaves her lacking in higher tiers of play.
Proposal- Speed it up, not to warlord level of headbutt, but about wardens level of shoulder charge. Keep the stamina cost the same, allow us to charge it for further distance, and give us the option to cancel.
Sidewinder-Give us a freebie option out of kick.
Guard changing: I believe it firmly needs to stay as her main weakness, and players should be relying on hidden stance with the proposed changes to offset it. This will keep her balances across tiers, give opponents to pressure and damage her and be rewarding for closing in. If Nobushi chooses to use all guard dodge hidden stance, she is sacrificing offense power for defense and to give up breathing room and she is still limited on defense options as she should be.
Recovery frames- A bit to slow right now in her current state, if she commits her opponents can easily sidestep anything she does and land some hits in before she recovers, coupled with the already slow guard shift she gets chunked just for attempting a light.
Proposal- Speed them up slightly she shouldn't be punished and gap closed so easily.
Dodge Speed/Distance- Severly lacking and close to the worst in the game. It should be difficult but not impossible to close the gap on a good nobushi. Needs small tweaking in both categories to allow her to maintain spacing and disengage when needed.
Rolls- as a character that frequently needs to disengage onslaughts, with the variety of gap closers in game, and how easy it is to catch back up to her after a roll. All she has managed to do is burn stamina and accomplish nothing. They either need to be free for her, or have a severly reduced cost. For a Versitile retreater she is laughably easy to get ahold of. Could potentially add this to Hidden Stance cost free or reduced as an option, to make her more Versatile.
This covers her major issues and concerns that have been repeatably brought up by veteran and experienced players. Currently she can be defined as the poor mans noobkiller (Pk/Orochi do a much better job of this, lets be honest). She falls flat on her face with her current frames/problems vs experienced players. I think her current stamina costs while high and severly limited on her, should balance out nicely with the proposed changes above and put her in a fairly solid place. Thanks for reading
