Hello fellow Knights, Samurai, and Vikings,
I'm sure this is the millionth thread asking for this, but I think it would do the community and a lot of player's sanity well to create a playlist of some kind where people whom are leveling up their characters can play, unmollested by 'gear' and its stats. Now before I get into talking about the idea itself, let's talk about gear, and how it makes Dominion, Elimination, and Skirmish Frustrating, especially while trying to level a 'Non Geared' character, or just trying to do your Orders.
Common (Grey) Gear:
Common gear is in a really good place, it offers some slight, barely noticeable bonuses that allow the player to slightly specialize in some areas, without sacrificing too much in others.
Uncommon (Blues) Gear:
Blue Gear is honestly in a pretty good place as well, it gives significant increases to stats, that are easily noticeable in the REVENGE areas, and slightly noticeable in the Non-Revenge areas. However, I believe Blue gear is balanced, because it only boosts one stat, and drains 1 stat.
Rare (Purple) Gear:
Purple gear is Overpowered, blatantly, it boosts One stat Severely, and a second Stat to Blue level maximum, while only draining 1 stat to next to nothing. This is all fine and dandy in columns that don't affect revenge, even though its still quite unfair if we're being honest, just based on statistics, in the tips, it claims higher level gear has a higher trade off, Well... purple gear doesn't really have a downside. But anyway, onto the point
Revenge Gear Purples Allow you to do the Following:
Max R.Defense/Revenge Gain by Defense, and Blue Level of the Non maxed
Max R.Attack/Revenge Gain by Injury, And Blue level of non maxed.
Max Revenge Duration/Debuff Resistance, And Blue level of the non maxed.
People with 108 (And purple gear in general) gear are damn near impossible to kill in a 2v1 scenario, they have a ridiculous amount of defense, take virtually no damage, have infinite stamina, their revenge lasts 15-20 seconds, and they can kill their adversary in a very low amount of hits. Now I know what you're thinking:
"Just don't 2v1 people and they can't use their Revenge."
This is true in a lot of cases, however, if a player is proving 'too good' to 1v1 to take the point from them, you're basically saying to forfeit the point the entire game, because that player becomes a God on the battlefield as soon as you introduce a second person. While sure, you can leave them there, I believe it takes away the spirit and competitive nature of the game. This Purple level gear just lets people attack with reckless abandon, and barely suffer any consequences as a result. And if I result to the Environment or just kite their revenge, in scenario A I'm a "Cheesing Noob", and in Scenario B I'm wasting 15-20 seconds of my time.
I don't mind that gear is in the game, however, Purple gear is just too dramatically better than literally everything, I think it should boost 1 stat to maximum, and leave one stat alone, and bring 1 stat to 0. That way you still get to specialize how you like, without just becoming god itself on the battlefield.
In Conclusion, If gear isn't to be touched, I would very much like a game playlist where gear is a non factor. It would make leveling up new characters a lot more fun, and would probably allow more newer players to actually enjoy the game when they aren't experiencing server/game issues, as they wouldn't be getting absolutely plowed while trying to just jump in and have a good time. I've gone to just leveling up my non Reputation Level 3+ Characters in Vs. AI modes, because playing against Purple+ Geared players is just too frustrating for me. I Hope you all can come to see some level of reason while reading this thread, please contribute to the conversation, and state your opinions.
Always the same answer: fish revenge activation (with a heavy feint or GB), then parry the F out of them and it's just 50% more hps. It is still skill based, so outplay them.
It won't last long, it would seem devs are prioritizing it more than p2p related issues.
Plus, most of those abusing it are dumb****s doing silly stuff like popping revenge and spamming zone attacks because "infinite stamina lulz". Rek them.
You're basically saying you have to play perfectly while someone is in revenge state. And all revenge "bash" attacks are all knock downs, you're basically saying in order to fight someone in revenge, that you have to play absolutely perfectly or die. Revenge vs. Purples is a pretty long time. I'm not saying your strategy doesn't work, I'm just saying it's an unrealistic expectation out of newer/less seasoned players. I do see your point though, it doesn't make revenge builds any less frustrating that if I mess up literally one time against a 10-20 second revenge that I can die. It also doesn't change the statistics themselves on the gear.
Yes, when they go yellow, you need to be on your toes or roll away and turn tail if you're not confident.Originally Posted by Necracyst-XVI Go to original post
Bashes into knockdowns is an issue with revenge, which would be fine if some knockbacks weren't so fast and unpredictable, but I'm confident it will be looked into as game design implies they regard knockdowns as something of significance, not something you can just spam away.
I also agree newcomers will struggle with it, but that's because they are newcomers. They will struggle with stuff until they are not newcomers anymore.
Gear difference is a matchmaking issue, but it feels silly to talk about matchmaking since it only seems to randomly form groups without any criteria (I've been matched with russians while playing from Italy, for instance).
On the other hand, the guy popping revenge is probably going to make mistakes too, on which you can (consciously or randomly) capitalize upon yourself. In theory everyone has to play perfectly to win, in practice you only need to do better than your opponent (revenge or not).
By the same logic map buffs and many feats represent the same issue (and to an extent I think they do).
I certainly agree with you on a lot of your points, however, I do still think a Non-Gear playlist could be essential as a Band-Aid to the current matchmaking, until something more 'in stone' can be set. Just giving newer players, or even veterans trying to level up other characters a place to go until they can compete in this ugly matchmaking meta.
I am definitely feeling the gear frustrations.
One thing that really gets me is that there really is no reason to build anything except for max revenge. All the other stats in my opinion are just less viable than going all revenge...
I think they should mix the revenge stats to one or 2 items. That way you can't just max out revenge because revenge related stats are on multiple items.
I also agree that the armor that reduces 1 stat to almost nothing but maximizes one and puts the third to a good amount is ridiculous.
Another thing I hate is revenge heavy builds can get revenge quickly in 1v1's. Then they will sit there and act like they are good but all they are doing is riding the revenge mode crutch.
I fought a nobushi for 3 games straight in dominion, we kept meeting in the middle (by ourselves) to fight. (She had 108 armor while I had low armor... I play many different characters rather than one). I would tear her up but because she could use her revenge armor as a crutch she had a fighting chance and sometimes bested me. Not because of skill though, but simply because of her armor...
I think a gear stat free playlist would be fine and dandy in theory. But it may split the player base a bit too much honestly. Maybe when they add ranked, the ranked modes won't have gear stats so that it would rightly focus on skill rather than gear.
