Yep. That is all I do too. Fly real high as death is low. Or fly under them in the valleys in media luna. I remember one of the official hints I saw for SAMS was to fly low. But when you scrape your skids off because you are dragging on the ground and the SAM still gets a lock I think the person who wrote it had never actually played the game and was just referring to real life.

I think this tip was true in the early updates of the game, but not now.
Now SAMs have a line-of-sight : if you are in that LOS than they can fire at you. If u fly low than in some cases you break LOS and avoid them.
    But thats unreliable.

Flying really high usually allow you to avoid a lock.

If you play with alerts HUD "ON" than you can try and fly as fast as you can in direct perpedicular line to their path: if they come from behind you - turn left or right so they come from your 3 or 9 oclock. This way rather fast helis can make the missles miss.

But flying really high seem to work best.

Anyone know of any tips or tricks? You can't take the SAMs out because they respawn every time you start a new mission / fast travel.
There is usually a route if you follow the right ground contours. Which mission is it you want?

This one is a plane mission but it shows the point. Below that is a clip showing in the second half that even a tree can be used to break LOS between the SAM and you

Bluefox is correct there are paths you can follow to avoid the SAM sites. But you can use the enivorment to your advantage for shaking the missiles. Keeping slightest hills, trees and buildings between you and the missile as it comes lets it crash into something other than yourself. If you start getting locked on, crank it hard left or right and try to fly out of the range, while doing this if you don't get out of the range you increased your odds for dodging the missile.

About 1.5-2 seconds before taking it up the tail pipe you turn one direction and look that same direction (with the new controls) to bank hard to let the slow turning missile miss you. Old controls, about 2 seconds taking the missile up the tail pipe, bank on direction go into a dive so you pick up speed to move out of the way of the slow turning missile.

Those, "dang, I'm screwed" moments. Try to turn to an angle where the missile might hit the back/side of the engine/transmission area and climb to help the missile to hit that area, you might get lucky and get the glitch where you eat the missile with no damage while running risk of no glitch or the missile catching the tail boom.

If we had flares that discharge every 60 seconds then that would not be an issue.

But the SAMs would then be pointless perhaps? They have to inconvenience us or they may as well not exist.

Just got shot down at 1400 meters.

Maybe the SAM was on a higher elevation? So I need to be 2000 meters above the lowest elevation of the game maybe?

They change the agility of large chopper. It's hard to dodge with it now.

My suggestion would be to fly low and close to streets, river, valleys, and trees when you suspect they are around. Why? Because, correct me if I'm wrong, what I notice is that they will shoot anything (and by 'anything', I mean only us LMAO) flying over 90 meters from their standpoint (there's a mission in Narco Road that asks you to fly lower than 90m to not attract SAM iirc) and this also applies when they are installed at a hill with lower altitude than where you are currently at. SAM will also not shoot if you're flying below their ground level and even if they do, they will definitely miss the shot, provided you are in the position inside the missile turning arc.
