How do you avoid SAM Turrents with Large Choppers?

Anyone know how to do the STEAL HELICOPTER missions in provinces that have dozens of SAM sites?

I literally fly so close to the ground my tires are on the road, but I still get slapped around - the chopper is far too big to avoid them consistently.

Anyone know of any tips or tricks? You can't take the SAMs out because they respawn every time you start a new mission / fast travel.

I want to say this in the nicest way possible.

Just turn back and forth; and plan your line of travel in order to preform evasive maneuvers.

Not too hard, just really annoying after you blew them up two minutes ago.

There needs to be a respawn timer on them. Say, maybe two ingame days?

If you fly low they are less likely to trigger against you. Not sure of altitude exactly, but 100-200m off the ground seems to get around most SAM sites for me... Though, it opens you up to being detected by ground forces and fired at by them...

But yes, erratic flying back and forth does the trick for the most part. I have only been hit twice thus far, and have probably evaded 40 or so.

I was on the verge of opening a thread earlier to comment on this. Why in the world do we not have countermeasures on these choppers? Maybe it wouldn't make sense on the purely civilian ones, but anything with mounted weapons should have chaff or flares to help deal with the AA fire.

The SAM's need some counter, any counter, the overwhelming anti-air they apply is actually ruining the game for me. That and Unidad not being tough, but invincible, and all over the place. I see more damn Unidad forces than Santa Blanca. SAM's need to be able to be disabled because as it stands now there is no point in even blowing them up since they'll respawn very fast or they overlap in coverage since they are placed all over the map like evey few hundred yards on some zones. So they just shut down flying all together, not just deter flying, but nullify it.

Same with Unidad, since you can NEVER, no matter how hard you fight or how many you take down, out fight them or even make them pause so you can withdraw or finish what you needed to do. This is another game element that doesn't challenge what you were doing, it nullifies it. So once you get their attention you either have to leave whatever you were doing, or just die and try again. There is no fighting your way out of it option (yay player freedom you guys touted!). This is poor challenge design, and it kills any semblance of realism because it accentuates the "bad guys" spawning infinitely from outta thin air problem that already exists, especially with the guarding the radio side missions. These elements are so badly done, and so consistently wrecking my experience in this game.

I stay low, at speed and when I get the alert haul the stick all the way to one side. That seems to do the trick most times, but sometimes I have to try to put something solid between myself and the incoming missile. Mountain peaks help with that, but you have to watch your drop speed.

I was literally as low as i could be. Any lower and i would have been bouncing off the ground.

The smaller chopper and the plane are quite simple to make sharp movements to avoid.

I find it virtually impossible to avoid even one, in the large supply chopper.

You dodged one SAM site, by not really doing anything.

Im talking about when you have multiple on you at the same time

All you have to do to avoid SAM is fly a klick (1km) or more above them... ~1km I've even flown 800-900m and not been detected. These are OPEN WORLD SAM's they aren't like real life. Anything over 800m they can't detect you. You're welcome
