Massive are reportedly looking for extra staff, and though the new Avatar game will be resource heavy it is generally acknowledged that they are now in the early stages of planning a Division sequel.
Assuming this is the case, what do we want?
What do we definitely NOT want?
I feel the embarrassing lack of innovation and story progression this past year, despite almost non stop asking, then pleading, then demanding from the community, is obviously because they intended to continue the story into the sequel and therefore their hands were tied.
So first off, location.
I think New York still has a lot to offer, many areas to explore, such as the 5 boroughs, the verticality of the skyscrapers, Central Park, even the Hudson river, and as such I feel it's the best place to continue the story...plus it is the "spiritual home" of the game, with the factions like Rikers inextricably linked to N.Y.C
What about the DZ?
Well, it is often a bone of contention between differing players as to the merits of the rogue system etc...which I personally feel is a good system that can add real tension and atmosphere, but it must be recognised it isn't perfect.
A distinct and seperate, more conventional, type or multiplayer should be available, in my opinion, that is no more linked to the main game than the multiplayer of CoD is to the single player campaign.
Pre-set classes and a level playing field need to be prioritised...so that means no talents, heals, mods etc...that can remain in the DZ.
The farcical client side rigmarole that has seen the p.c playerbase left with a shambolic mess must be addressed and not allowed to happen again.
I'm on ps4, yet I feel they must be made a priority in that sense, as hacking is thankfully rare on console.
So what do you want to see?
My quick rundown is as follows;
Keep it in New York, add interesting locations, fighting up to high floors and roofs of skyscrapers, maybe on the river, or Brooklyn bridge, perhaps some climbing mechanics, more puzzle elements that require some strategy to overcome, not brute force or sniping from cover every time. Bring back crafting so it feels like the world is filled with scavenging by neccisity, which it should in a post apocalyptic scenario. Perhaps a rudimentary trading system between players, the way you see in other RPG/MMO type games. Less cheap NPCs that overwhelm, instead have them be more intelligent, flanking and trying to gain the high ground, as more enemies that rush you doesn't make it more challenging...just more frustrating. Sort the RNG that we all know isn't random at all. Maybe some melee weapons, like bats, clubs, axes, that actually do a small amount of damage up close and can be used as a finisher. And finally some random events that aren't planned or marked on the map, but they are triggered occasionally and maybe involve civilians asking for help or protection...just something that isn't so predictable and predetermined.
I'm sure there's more, and I hope you guys have some stuff to add.
After all, putting stuff out there might even get the devs notice and if enough of us ask for similar stuff, and a consensus emerges, it may just influence them...even just a little...maybe.
