GB needs to be made viable. It's an anti-block mechanic that is available to everyone that is useless. You shouldn't feel like you're safe just because you're defending. GB should give chip damage or drain stamina from the opponent or both if you really want GBC in the game. It can save you from a GB but at a you can't do it to defend perpetually.
The core mechanics beat the heroes moves, GB/CGB included. As I said, we don't need to learn the hero, just the core.

Comparing to other fighting games, you need to master your character moves to compete. The common core moves (grab, block, parry, etc) are just situational options to give you tools to use your combos/moves. Against someone who learned the own character, you can't compete using simple hits and core mechanics, because your enemy knows how to maximize an openning and use the character moves to punish you.

In For Honor if you know how to PARRY, GB/CGB and BLOCK, all you need now is know R1+R2 is a ZA, R1 is a light and R2 is a heavy. Doesn't matter what hero you use, this is all you need to know to be competitive! There is no combos, there is no follow-ups, no footsies, no need for any "fancy" move at all. It's wrong! It's very very wrong!

I'm pretty sure For Honor doesn't have more player because this, not even because the connection issues, since Duel and Brawl aways worked without problems, and if fight was fun right at the beggining, people would just change game mode until fixes (look the success beta and launch was). But the fight is boring. There is nothing to master in the end, because we don't need to learn and use the hero moves. Duel is boring, reason why Dominion is the most played game mode: things happen there, to break the boredom which duel is.

You learned the core, you get bored of your hero and decide to play a new one, just to discover that the gameplay is the same. The Core beat the Hero, so all you need is the Core.

I'm damn sure Shinobi and Centurion will fall for the same 1~2 simple moves plus Core, as any other.

    THIS.

Pretty much For honor in one post.

Theres no difference between a kensei and a raider or a LB, if you want to be competitive, stay still wait, and parry/block, do not attack first, and ABOVE ALL, do not even dare to start a combo.

The core gameplay is only dominant because it's a closed loop with no way to counter turtling. Turtling is the problem here because GB doesn't fulfill its intended role of actually breaking guards. Once you remove the safety of defending the turtle meta won't be an issue. Your defense isn't safe against Headbutt, Vortex and PK lights so turtling isn't an issue in those matchups. For every other matchup GCB let's turtlers be Safe.
