Chivalry Will Outlive For Honor, and Here's Why.

In terms of current population, Chivalry is mostly dead. But 5 years later, players still play the game. Even the really mediocre Deadliest Warrior expansion of the game. For Honor, however, is quickly losing interest, and without the obvious answer of "Why?" being Ubisoft, because Ubisoft isn't capable of keeping a game alive, there's one MAJOR reason this game is broken, and that is:

    The Lock-On-Target system.

Now, before you jump to conclusions, and call my crazy, listen to my reasoning.

Think of all the issues you currently have with the combat system in this game, and how they're directly related to the fact that you're locked onto the target you're fighting. Moving your mouse left, right, or top to block attacks can feel unnatural at first, and that's because it is. It makes a LOT more sense to move your character in said direction, as opposed to just your guard.

    Unblockable, unending chains.

The unblockable and unending chains work, because no matter what you press, you're attacking in the same direction, and with the exception of evasive maneuvers from the target, all attacks will hit the person. Without the lock on target system, the player would have to re-position themselves after a shoulder charge or shield bash, and that alone would be enough to interrupt that chain.

    Multi-person combat.

The current system is pretty shoddy when it comes to fighting multiple people. Fighting one additional person can be done, but when one turns into three or four, skill is MOSTLY taken out of the equation. Realistic? Perhaps, but who buys games for realism? You're taking several hits from pointy weapons before dying in this game.

Without the lock on target system, player skill and positioning can make fighting multiple people a lot more possible, because you're not locked behind a shoddy control system where you have to push an awkwardly placed button (Seriously, there is NO good place to bind the target-switch button on keyboard, this coming from someone who used to run 40+ keybinds for WoW).

All in all, the lock on system is very lackluster, and takes away from what could otherwise be a very great game. Yes, I'm aware that getting rid of this system would require an entire redesign.

I like the lock on system. Feels smooth for the most part. Granted there are some tweaks but overall. It's good.
