Persistent static buzzing on startup making Rocksmith is unplayable

I've been playing Rocksmith for years now on my PC (Windows 10) but just recently it stopped working. It still boots but starts with staticy audio problems. Because it begins on startup on the menu screens, I dont think it's the cable. I suspect it is either software or hardware incompatibility. May or may not be the issue but I recently got some expensive headphones: Sennheiser PC 363D High Performance Surround Sound Headset. They come with a 7.1 surround sound Dolby audio sound card. My guess (shot in the dark) is that the game cant handle the capabilities of the hardware and it results in the staticy audio issues I've been experiencing.

I tried a few things I found on on the internet, like this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7N-Xz0jmq0

It involves configuring headphones to Stereo instead of 7.1, adjusting the Rocksmith frequency and re-downloading and replacing the Rocksmith.ini file. I did all this and it didnt help.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

i had pops and clicks that wouldn't go away once or twice, what solved it was rather unorthodox, i unplug the breaker part of the cable while it's on (active/in use) plug it back in and the static is gone.

I cannot really tell, but are those USB headphones?

If so then they are their own audio device.

The game officially likes the built in audio device. That is what is recommended to be used.

Other audio devices may or may not be able to be made to work.

Is your headphone/Sennheiser audio playback device set to stereo, 16 bit, 48 khz?

In the end you just may not be able to use those headphones with the game.

Mine makes a different sound. But I actually tried something like this (if not this exactly) in my first round of trouble shooting. It did fix the problem, but then there was a delay between when I hit notes and when the sound came out, so I had to revert back. Thanks for the tip though, I will maybe try it again when I get home today.

Yeah this is what I'm afraid of. They are USB and come with a sound card (Sennhieser 3D Game1) that enables Dolby audio attached to the wire between the headphones and the USB. I suspect this to be the issue but was hoping there was an easy fix.

I cant remember the freq but they were set at "Studio Quality". I'll check when I get home.

Before I left for work, I reinstalled (after saving my DLC somewhere), so I'll let everyone know if that works too when I get home.

    Thanks for the replies.

Have you tried using the 3.5mm jack direct on your PC? (ie without the USB audio gizmo).

There is a setting for Display/Sound Lag in the options in game! I bet it's set around 50 when it needs to be a lot less!

The game display lag will not affect the lag of hitting a note and hearing it later.

The game display lag setting adjust the note highway speed to match the audio ... AFAIK.

Lag heard between hitting a note and hearing it can only be affected outside the game via settings and hardware of the audio playback device and how it eventually ends up connected to speakers/headphones.
