Bolivian Govt wants answers from Ubisoft

    Oh, the drama...

As much as we all seemed to like Ghost Recon: Wildlands, it hasn’t gone down well with the government of Bolivia, which has lodged a formal complaint with the French embassy over its depiction of the country as under the total control of drug traffickers.

Bolivian Interior Minister Carlos Romero told Reuters the government may even lawyer up over Ghost Recon: Wildlands if it doesn’t get a satisfactory reply to its letter of complaint.

“We have the standing to [take legal action], but at first we prefer to go the route of diplomatic negotiation,” he said.

It's kind of funny. I mean not that the story is terribly plausible, but the game explains that the country is under the control of a foreign drug cartel, who came in and basically took over.

I'm not sure what their legal complaint would be. It's a fictional scenario.

I was surprised Ubisoft actually set the game in Bolivia albeit a fictional version of the country.

Most game developers choose a fictional country/city/backdrop for games of this nature to avoid this kind of response. Even though it's fictional it doesn't depict the govt. of Bolivia in a very positive light.
