Counter-Guardbreak: I can't consistently do it. Tell me how.

Well it's all in the title.

I'm trash against characters who use guard breaks. It is a huge hole in my game; it's supremely frustrating losing to a class like Orochi or Warden which like to make excessive use of guard breaks.

I want to hear people's advice on how they've overcome this issue themselves. Thanks in advance.

    Same here.

From what I've gathered, there's a period between your guard-break and your next action (which is the period during which you can pick a direction to push the enemy). I experimented with this in the Advanced Training and it seems that you can only cancel the enemy's GB until they start the next move. So if they're pretty quick in GB and attacking / pushing you, it leaves you no time to counter.

If you try it too early, nothing happens. They're too fast and that's the problem.

Same Problem here. Have massive Problems against Orochi. I mainly play Nobuchi, so it´s importnt for me to get distanz after a failed attack and the following side step of Orochi. I know, that there will be the grab, i know that i have to CGB it. But i only get it in 1/3 times.

    Pls help.

When you see the "broken shield" icon, press the button.
But you have to make sure you're actually in a position to counter guardbreak. Example: You can't CGB if he grabs you during your dodge, of if he grabs right after he parried you.
If the grab succeeds, he has a set amount of time to do a move, or your character will auto CGB and you will be back to neutral.

When you do the Advanced Training, in the GB section I can't cancel the enemy's GB if I press the square button at the same time as I see the shield icon. I have to wait until the GB is done, before he does his next action.

Do it by sound if visual isn't working for you. Listen for the sound of the impact when they gb you the actual window starts there.

from what ive concluded in the practice part, the guard break part... the key factor is as as soon as they touch you (you hear the grab) that is the key timer to get the guard break.

so like half a second ish after its initiated so you hear their grab and you hit x... quick "wack -wack" sound lol.

I play on a PC so what i usually do is i hover my middle finger on the middle button when you are defending. You should watch the animation and listen for the sound instead of looking at the red icon. Its really hard to do a counter guardbreak if u have to think about it so u need to practice until it become muscle memory. You should train urself with advance practice first and then train with a level 2 bot. Just block all its attacks, dont attack it and just work on counter guardbreak. You should get a lot better after two hours of practice. Same thing with parry if u wanna get good. Then u can block all day, counter all day and parry their unblockables and make them cry nerf defense.

Let me guess...You're playing the game via a controller, aren't you?? I've got the same issue and so do PLENTY of other people...And yet there seems to be people that are absolute masters at it. A big advantage is if you use a mouse and keyboard.

When you use a controller, your right-thumb has the duty of handling a joystick AND 4 buttons. But on a keyboard each finger has its' own assignment (by default, the middle-mouse button is for GB or counter GB). That makes a BIG DIFFERENCE in reaction times.

You can read more about it in a similar thread I created over at:
